“Perfect hotel for historic Salem”

This hotel is cozy to the eye and the feel. However, the rooms are very dated in everyway. The beds are old, the linens are worn, and the plumbing needs modernization. The Sunday Jazz Brunch is lovely. The variety of both breakfast and dinner offerings were more than sufficient; and everything was very tasty. However, the food in their Tavern was not of the same quality, although the portions were more than adequate. The location was terrific as it was within walking distance of most of the places of interest, as well as close to the waterfront and other great restaurants. I would definitely stay there again despite the need for some badly needed work in the rooms; as the staff was very cordial and the common areas were very inviting.

“Attractive and Historic Venue”

Parking excellent, undergoing rennovation is some partsof the hotel currently, staff were attentive, within walking distance of Peabody Essex Museum and other attractions, rooms were clean but small, bathrooms very tiny and not yet updated very much, comfortable firm bed

“Comfortable and convenient”

The Hawthorne is an old-fashioned hotel, not a motel or a Sheraton. I found the accommodations quiet and adequate for my one-night visit to Salem. The hotel is quite close to major attractions in Salem. One drawback: no fridge in my room.

“Great Location”

An old hotel, but it was def part of the experience. Room was clean, a little small, but a very pleasent stay. The location was key...walking distance to everything, and trolly stop too. Its worth the extra money to stay in Salem. If you are thinking about stayting outside of Salem...DON'T! The traffic in and out of there sucks. And the streets aren't the easiest to navagate. Looking forward to our trip back next year!

“Good place”

I had a single room on the third floor. The bathroom and shower were in separate stalls with a door to both which was odd. The window looked onto a noisy roof. It was an ok bed-the fitted sheet was on upside down. The Tavern/bar on the first floor were great and the location was perfect.

“Hawthorne Salem”

Old style hotel, centrally located, minutes from Logan, great restaurant and bar, well staffed, polite staff, large parking lot, large free parking lot, clear driving directions on web pages. Clean spacious room - even the boutiique room was adequate. Give it a try - you'll not have regrets.

“Very small room, but good location”

The room was very tiny, especially the bathroom. It did however have a workout room available to guests that I did put to use after taking a walk in the park next door. The bed was comfortable. It is walking distance to several sights. A friendly bartender in the Green. Great Italian restaurant across the road.

“Deep inna Hearta Salem”

I stayed here because of a late night gig and no desire to drive back home at 3 AM. The Hawthorne is a historical hotel and looks it. I am familiar with Salem, but if you stay here during Halloween season, you will be within walking distance of all the goings-on. The bed wasn't the best I've slept on and the heat was hard to control, but minor quibbles. As with nearly everywhere I go, I hear too much of people in other rooms and hallways. Surely thicker walls can be standard by now.

“Hawthorne Hotel - Great location and history”

This is a very historic and well maintained location. The Hawthorne is walking distance to many of the attractions in Salem, and is a very pleasant spot. Only problem we had with this visit was the size of the room. Some rooms are very small! If you are claustrophobic you may have problems with the shower stall. There are larger rooms, and they have a lot of charm as well -- but also higher price.

“Historic charm”

This is an historic hotel. If you are a history buff, it is esp. nice. The least expensive room is small, but I made do. The closet is tiny.
