Comfortable Old Fashioned Hotel

Posted Apr 17, 2014
Pros: It's comfort.
We stayed four nights and enjoyed the old fashioned comfort the Hawthorne offered. Very convenient to tour Salem and close to the Commuter Train to North Station in Boston.

Good hotel in the heart of the city.

Pros: Had a really good room service meal. The Caesars salad was top drawer. Most importantly had a wonderful nights sleep.
Cons: The wi-fi broadband was very slow.
Location: Was just passing through. But for anyone wanting to stay at Salem the hotel is very centrally located, with the common behind it.
Very comfortable room in a historic setting and the food was excellent.

Historic hotel near the ocean and downtown area.

We stayed in a small room that overlooked the Salem Commons. The room was comfortable, clean, and welcoming. We are vegans and the dining staff were very understanding and helpful in finding something to eat at the hotel for dinner and breakfast the next morning.

Great time! Beautifully decorated. Simple and clean. One of the friendliest towns in the US. Close access to all the attractions of Salem.

Great location

Interesting stay at The Hawthorne Hotel! 2 nights of bumps in the night, air con switching on on it's own and stuff like that. Staff very friendly, helpful and apologetic if anything went wrong. It's an old old hotel, so naturally things need refreshing but they have kept it true to the hotels history by not changing it all to modern styles. Having said that.. We are going to book to come back in October!

Very comfortable

Pros: Everything! They did a real nice job with the renovations, the lobby lighting, etc.
Cons: The bathroom was small, though clean. No problems with water pressure.
Location: Close to everything..shops, movies, stores, restaurants. You can walk everywhere.
Very quaint facility. Many reviews stated their concerns about the small rooms; if you wish a larger room, go online with said request. Centrally located. My room was clean, and comfortable. The restaurant was very good and very reasonably priced.

An historic hotel in the heart of historic Salem

The hotel is on the common, and walking distance to The House of Seven Gables and Peabody-Essex Museum. It's a lovely and friendly place to stay.
