Decent niche hotel for the areaPosted Nov 18, 2013
Pros: Separate Jetted Tub was a nice amenity. Proximity to the historical areas of Salem is obviously the draw.
Cons: Window linens, door and window insulation, larger bed options.
Location: On the edge of the Salem self-guided tour route and nearby some nice local shops.
The hotel is nice, but due to the age and location, parking is non-existent - the only option was to park at a sister hotel and walk 2+ blocks; which would be OK for the spring/summer but during winter is less than optimal. The room was not in any way sound insulated; not only from the outside, but also from the common areas of the building. Morning and Evening local commuter traffic made the street-facing room miserably noisy. Noise from Guests' comings and goings at all hours was bothersome as well. The "queen" bed seemed quite small. Linens were barely adequate for the temperature of the room, which didn't seem to have any separate controls. Complete lack of insulation around the room door (as evidenced by the hallway light at night) allowed cool air and noise. Window linens offered absolutely no privacy nor insulation from cold nor light. Shower-curtain covering over large shower window left bathers feeling exposed.

Nice Hotel walking distance to town.Posted Sep 13, 2013
The accomodations were lovely. Wonderful jacuzzi tub. Great continental breakfast. The only negative thing that I can say is that there was no place to hang our dress clothes. We were there for a family wedding and ended up hanging our clothes on the canopy bed. Not the best place but it worked. Can't wait to return in the winter to use the fireplace.

FairPosted May 19, 2011
We thought we were staying in the main building. There are three different buildings and we were put into a different one. It was nice, but we didn't really see any people moving in and out of there. It seemed as if we had the house to ourselves. I don't think there were a lot of people traveling the night we were there. The room was very old where the floor creaked and the beds didn't seem that comfortable. The temperature dropped the night we were there and we couldn't figure out how to turn on the heaters and they didn't have any extra blankets laying around. There was a fireplace but it seemed it was there only for decoration purposes. The bathroom was very small and very little room to move around in. Breakfast was included. It was fair but there really wasn't a lot to choose from. The bad thing about this hotel, there isn't anybody at the main desk after a certain hour. If you have any problems, there wasn't anybody you could contact until the next morning. We were put on the top floor. I often wondered if there was room on a lower floor in any of their buildings, since we didn't see a lot of people moving around. I thought the room was too expensive and there was limited parking.

Do not stay here! Avoid at all expense!Posted Mar 15, 2011
The cost of this hotel was very expensive, and I have stayed at budget hotels with better service and comfort. To start off, the staff was constantly noisy, frequently tried to barge into the room, to the point where we had to yell at them and block the door. What is the point of an in-room hot tub if the staff try to come in there with you? There were other people staying in the hotel who were partying, and generally screaming and getting crazy all night. Eventually during our last night there the police came and were there most of the night in a standoff with a screaming hotel guest. Needless to say this is not what I expected. What really makes this situation horrible is the hotel staff and management have made no attempt to resolve this situation, when I told the staff I was unhappy with my stay, they just flippantly remarked, "oh, yeah, because of last night." I have made several attempts at contacting the hotel to resolve this, but they will not return calls or emails. The hotel has literally made no attempt to resolve this before, during, or after the fact, and has ignored all complaints.

This is a fairly basic inn - we stayed in one of the family rooms in the Peabody House - but it does offer a good level of service, an excellent location and a hearty breakfast. It is on a rather busy road which can be noisy in the early morning, but we were quite pleased with it overall.
