Convenient to the University of Utah/Westminster

Posted Oct 13, 2014
Pros: Easy walk to Red Butte Garden and Museum of Natural History, Bonneville Shoreline Trail.
Cons: Restaurant staff seemed to be continually occupied chatting with each other, but once I got their attention they were fine.
Spent a week here for a painting workshop. Front desk especially responsive to my initial concerns about housekeeping and the restaurant staff. Easy shuttle service to U. Sugarhouse and downtown easily accessible from this hotel.

First time in SLC!

Posted Oct 6, 2014
My sisters and I took a quick two day trip to SLC and we decided that this hotel was perfect for the price and pretty close to Sugar House Park, which was our reason for travel. Overall, everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. Would stay here again!

Very Nice

This was my first stay in Salt Lake. This hotel was a little ways away from downtown but the price was right and the hotel was great. I would recommend it.

Great Hotel. For Smokers.

Posted Sep 5, 2014
Pros: I was promptly offered another room on the same floor when I complained about cigarette smoke. Great view of the mountains.
Cons: Not sure how this problem can be solved. The hotel staff seemed resigned to it.
Location: Near the university. Not a lot to do nearby unless you are a student. Bakery a few blocks away. Ten minutes from downtown.
Marriott University Park is a modernist seven story hotel with a Starbucks, and a big lounge area event area. I stayed on the top floor. My room was well-appointed, if a bit small and very clean. I'd be happily singing the praises of this hotel were it not for problems with air quality that gave me red eyes, a sore throat, and interfered with my sleep. The building feels hermetically sealed, like an airplane and probably is, in part, to contain the costs of heating and cooling the massive glass-enclosed seven story atrium. In a world without smokers, this would probably be okay. But, despite the no-smoking signs, the $250 smoking charge, and the smoke detectors, I was tormented by cigarette smoke every evening. The room AC seemed to just recirculate the same unhealthy air. I ended up with sinus problems as a result and was much happier out of the hotel, or on the ground floor, than in my room.

Really needs Remodeled

Posted Aug 26, 2014
Pros: The Front Desk People
Cons: Just about everything when it comes to remodeling the whole hotel.
Wow, spent a good amount even through Expedia and was truly disappointed with the dated look, dirty fridge area, objects left on floor, and the smell of old cigarettes from past years. It just seems that for a Marriott it was so disappointing.

One Night In Salt Lake

Posted Aug 10, 2014
The hotel does not provide roll-away beds; first Marriott I've seen without them. One elevator broken. Staff plead ignorance and took no action to fix it. The only remaining elevator was constantly full and slow to each floor. Would not honor Marriott Rewards points because room was booked through Expedia. But Hilton will honor HHonors points even if booked through Expedia. I tried explaining to staff that Expedia was used to save some money, but I still chose Marriott because I (generally) like the hotels. But I could've chosen any hotel chain. Their unwillingness to bend seems more than a little petty. Staff could not find my Marriott Rewards number or my wife's. Didn't seem particularly concerned about it either. Room was not stocked with enough towels. Room was located directly above the outdoor patio portion of the bar. The noise from the bar patrons was overwhelming and did not stop until after 1am. Overall, completely dissatisfied with the stay and definitely will not stay at this hotel again.

Dear John, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Salt Lake City Marriott University Park. You indicated in your response that you were unable to obtain a roll-a-way bed at check-in. Unfortunately, we only maintain a small inventory of roll-a-way beds on property and they are issued on a first-request basis unless noted in the reservation. It appears our Front Desk agent did not explain this situation clearly to you, and did not offer any other recommendations to accommodate your needs. As well, it was regrettable that the elevator was not working during your stay. Please also accept my apologies for the the inconveniences you had in regards to not having enough towels and the location of your guestroom. We take great pride in ensuring our guest’s satisfaction. Unfortunately, we did not meet your—or our own—expectations. Since your review, we have shared your comments with our management team to ensure this type of experience is not repeated. In regards to the Marriott Reward program, because your accommodations were purchased through Expedia, the regulations of this program do not allow us the flexibility to award points for your stay. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We will share your message appropriately within Marriott. You’re a valued customer; everything we do is aimed at providing you with an excellent hotel experience. We would like to regain your trust and hope to serve you again in the future. Sincerely, Joe Snarr General Manager
