Went from ok to bad to great.

Posted Oct 13, 2014
First, the location of the hotel was great! Restaurant food and staff were very good and moderately priced. The problems arose with one front desk clerk who copped an attitude when I told them they put me in the wrong room, then I got more attitude when I let the same person know the air conditioner stopped working. Things proved after that when they gave me an upgraded room several floors up. Over all very satisfied with my five might stay and SLC is a great city to visit. Will return next year!

Bugs! And needs updating

Posted Oct 10, 2014
Pros: Friendly staff, free on-site parking, close proximity to good local restaurants.
Cons: Bug control, updated interior.
Location: Only a few minutes drive to the Red Iguana, which has the most amazing Mexican food.
My husband, dog and I checked into the Red Lion while traveling from Boston to San Francisco. From the moment we walked in, it was apparent that the hotel needed some updating, but we could look past that considering we were only there for one night. What I found horrifying was the bugs. I opened up the balcony door to look outside, and bugs fell on me from the top of the door frame, and from there, basically infested the room. They were on the beds and curtains. I couldn't stand the thought of sleeping in that room, so I called the front desk to request a different room because our room had bugs. The girl was very accommodating, but by the way it sounded, the bugs were very common. The man at the front got us set up with a new room, which was great, but as he was handing us the keys, he said that our new room faced the pool and that there shouldn't be any bugs over there. Maybe I'm picky, but I don't think there should be bugs in any room! We got to our new room, I checked out the curtains, and found two more bugs, which my husband squished. We didn't see any others after that, but I felt that the hotel room wasn't clean. To add insult to injury, the outlet in the bathroom fried my hair dryer - so don't use your own if you must stay here! On the bright side, beds were generally comfortable, staff was friendly, but wouldn't not recommend or stay here again.

Nice, clean and easy to get to...

Posted Oct 9, 2014
Pros: great place to do work in the room, nice and spacious
Location: walking distant to restaurants and just minutes from downtown, great location to SLC
Only draw back is they tell you when you check in that there is a complimentary coffee bar that is open every morning, what they don't tell you is that is shuts down at 6AM, so you can then go buy a cup of the SAME coffee in the diner for $2.25. Seems rather ridiculous to me!

Ok, for the price.

Pros: Nothing really stands out as "great" about this hotel. It was adequate.
Cons: The mattresses are too soft. When sharing a bed, if one person rolls it wakens the other.
Location: Downtown SLC, near Temple Square, but not quite close enough to call it walking distance.
This hotel is fine. But I thought Red Lion's were supposed to be a little more upscale. This one was kind of run down. There were a few things in need of repair - nothing that truly interfered with our stay (with the exception of the mattresses that were old and too soft), but things like broken closet doors, broken entry door mechanisms, and the water control in the shower didn't operate properly. We weren't given any wash cloths initially but were provided with them the next day. The price was pretty good, but no breakfast was included. I would not bother staying here again.

good hotel

Posted Sep 17, 2014
Pros: Free airport shuttle is provided in a half hour interval.
Cons: A shower mat and a hairdryer should be available in every room.
Location: Location is good: easy to get around -- 5 minute's walk to a in-city rail station (like subway system but above the ground).
The hotel staff are accommodating, friendly and helpful.
