Hotel Alisei

Posted Aug 23, 2010
I loved the Hotel Alisei! As with most hotels, its the details that count, espeically when staying in a remote town in a third world country. I loved that the room had bottled water for free (in the big jug), as well as an incredible huge shower that looks out over the ocean so you feel like you're taking an outdoor shower but you're not! The staff were super friendly, even for someone like me who didnt speak any Spanish. The food in the restaurant was among the best in the entire area of Las Terrenas, including the breakfast. THe gounds were impeccable and staff were continuously maintaining/working on them, including an amazing pool. All rooms are ocean view w balcony and fans. Even the onsite spa was exremely good and hard to be prices. All in all this was an amazing hotel that far exceeded the cost. The pictures on the site dont do it justice, its much nicer in person and the beach is perfect. The only downside is the town close by. Its dirty and a bit dumpy, although there are a few bars and restaurants that are worth the walk into town.

Pretty good, with drawbacks

Posted Mar 17, 2010
Hotel Alisie had its pros and cons. The beach and swimming area is only fair. The road leading to the hotel is a dirt road nightmare, especially after heavy rain. The one bedroom apartment is satisfactory, but comfortable livingroom seating is limited and the rooms could benifit from some art on the walls. It has a spartan feel to it. The best part is the terrace, which is spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was an ample buffet, but tiresome after 4 days. The restaurant is attractive enough, but expensive for DR and the quality not worth it. The staff was helpful, the spa an added plus, and the pool was lovely.
