great staff/a little scary with a 2 y/oPosted Feb 19, 2015
Pros: Quite location. Great breakfast with fresh fruit, bread, coffee, juice, and eggs. Nice pool
Cons: Railing on stairs and loft for small children.
Location: We went for the whale watching in Samana, but never made it. Other than that they had some excursions into the mountains. Not to family friendly
5 of us arrived around 2pm. Check in was 3pm so we went in to town for lunch. It was not long after that my wife and son-in-law were confined to the room ill with Fever and stomach issues. One bathroom was a bit of an issue but there were 3 nice public toilets at the entrance. The scary part was the stairs to three upstairs beds. Like all 2 y/olds he wanted to hang thru the wide railings.

Très bon hôtel. Superbe jardin tropical. Proche du centre ville. Excellente cuisine : la patronne est française. Excellent petit déjeuner.

Cute hotel, but showing its agePosted Dec 16, 2014
We stayed 3 nights at La Tortuga and by the third night felt that it was a little too rustic for us. The hotel is small and secluded, set in a forested area off the main road and about a 5 minute walk from the beach. The grounds are gorgeous, with small concrete cabins surrounding a beautiful pool. It was a wonderful experience to fall asleep to the sounds of so many frogs and other insects. However, we found the bed hard and sagging and furthermore, the room seemed to be constantly damp. We would turn up the A/C to combat this but then spent our nights freezing under a thin blanket. I think we were expecting more of a beach hotel experience, and it is mainly for this reason we were a bit disappointed. That being said, the staff were very friendly and the scrambled eggs at breakfast were out of this world! For those looking for a hotel on the beach or those wanting some more creature comforts, it's not the hotel for you.

Chambre simple. Un peu d'humidité.

Wonderful boutique hotel in garden near beachPosted Sep 7, 2014
From the moment you enter the magical garden of La tortuga, the melodies of tiny singing frogs and crickets greet you. Director Isabelle is a nurturing presence throughout your stay, as well as an exceptionally excellent cuisine chef. Meals at La Tortuga are succulent, the best I have ever had apart from top big city chef restaurants--but for 1/3 of their prices. Follow Isabelle's daily dish recommendations: she knows exactly which is the freshest and most delicious. Overall my experience at La Tortuga was unparalleled, in service, personalized attention (we asked for a breakfast mangu and fried egg dish as well as a sancocho for dinner, and got them in a flash), beautiful natural setting in midst of trees and flowers, proximity to beach, quiet and secluded personal down time, access to many tour guides for various explorations/day trips. Thank you Isabelle and Mauricio for an exceptional stay! :-)

Great place, awesome stay!Posted Aug 16, 2014 on Hotels.com
La Tortuga is a small paradise nestled in the middle of Las Terrenas, central location with cozy bungalows, beautiful vegetation and an awesome pool! I would have liked the staff to be more attentive and helpful, as there are not that many guests staying at a one time so they could give more personalized attention (they welcomed us very well though). If I ever go back, would like to try the restaurant!
