Bonito, Limpio, Seguro, Comodo and priced well.Posted Jan 8, 2015
Pros: The staff and the room cleanliness. The free WiFi internet speed was good all over the property. I used Skype to make clear phone calls often.
Cons: The hotel is a little bit dated, but that is part of its charm frankly.
Location: The Cariari Mall and the Pedregal Event Plazas are nearby.
Pedro and Anita were very accommodating during our (3 family member) 5 night stay at Hotel Puerta del Sol. Shopping (for groceries and otherwise) at the Cariari Mall nearby was available. The hotel is near the airport and the room was very clean and comfortable. The A/C worked perfectly although was not really necessary at this time of year in the Costa-Rican Central Valley. The amply sized room had a wide variety of cable channels a ceiling fan as well. The Hard Rock Cafe was nearby too! Hotel Puerta del Sol is priced in a manner that is proper, unlike some of the hotels in the San Jose vicinity. I recommend the hotel wholeheartedly. Pura Vida!

Need to improve on the service...Posted Jun 30, 2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel pictures are true but the real thing is not as nice. The room was not nice... the bathroom roof was rotting because of the humidity. The room service was terrible. I get a call that if a want room cleaning I said yes and she said please leave the room now... and I said give me 20 minutes to get dressed and she said no it has to be now... then i said no thank you. They did not do any effort to really give the service. I do not recommend this hotel only if you want to save some money.

Very Convenient LocationPosted Mar 12, 2014 on Hotels.com
This was one of the nicest, cleanest small hotels I've stayed in in my two years in Costa Rica. I will stay there again. Owner and staff were very helpful and spoke English. Across the street from a nice mall and right on the main highway with a bus stop one block away. Excellent location for traveling in and out of San Jose, Alajuela or Heredia. Also, best breakfast of any stay I've had! Clean comfortable accommodations. Hot water. A/C (which I don't even need), but some really do! Very well priced! I will stay there again! Highly recommend this hotel.

El hotel esta bien, lo unico que no me gustó es q nos fuimos pronto por la mañana y aunque el desayuno estaba incluido no fueron ni para darnos un zumo antes, poco detallista.

Nice staffPosted Apr 27, 2013 on Hotels.com
The place is well hidden. San Jose itself is kind of a craphole. Our biggest qualms was the traffic noise at night. The highway is right behind the hotel. The bed wasn't great, and the internet wasn't either...though we found that to be normal for most CR hotels. The service was great, it's a mom and pop place...small and a beautiful garden around the pool. Best quality was breakfast which was served to us...including fruit, local egg breakfast w/toast, and juice and/or coffee.

Preiswertes HotelPosted Jan 23, 2013
Pros: Sehr nette und hilfsbereite Besitzerin.
Cons: Schlechte Bedinung / Kaffe mal sehr Gut mal ungenießbar.

Comfortable hotel with a great locationPosted Oct 22, 2012
Pros: The true Costa Rican feel, and they helped with the tours
Cons: Nothing comes to mind
Location: Upscale Alajuela, very close to the mall and the bus stop. Close enough to San Jose (bus ride is a US dollar). Absolutely no traffic
My sister and I wanted to experience Costa Rica for our birthday, so we chose a small hotel owned by locals. We had a great time!!! There was a Costa Rican breakfast awaiting us every morning, and Ana Maria (the owner) ensured that we signed up for the best tours. Thanks Hotel Puerta del Sol!!!!!!! This was indeed a vacation that we will remember for a lifetime!
