Wonderful activities for young children!!!

We loved the kids club!!! Very welcoming! Henrietta's market had everything we needed for a quick grab n go snack. The shuttle to the shops was timely and so convenient.

Aging property both in and out.

Posted Oct 9, 2014
Rooms not sound proof enough, hallways noisy all thru the night. Rooms need upgrade immediately compared to same price properties in this area. Signage is poor and need better guides on amenities throughout. I had not been to this property since I married in March 2002, and the age is definitely showing. If improved would love to return again.

Thank you for your candid comments about your recent visit. In November 2014, the resort will temporarily suspend overnight accommodations until April, 2015 for a tremendous transformation, which includes the creation of brand new sparking pools, restaurants, bars and outdoor spaces, as well as a new arrival experience, lobby and guest check in. The resort's two award winning golf courses and 19th hole restaurants will be open throughout the transformation. We look forward to welcoming you to the new La Cantera Hill Country Resort. Hill country escape

Posted Oct 8, 2014
Pros: Different activities for every age, excellent venue for social events.
Cons: Menu options were great but more variety or a grill poolside.
Location: .5 miles from Six flags Fiesta Texas, Shops of La Cantera, Multiple restaurants, golf course
The resort was beautiful and very kid friendly. I brought my girls, ages 8 & 11 for a weekend getaway. We enjoyed Fiesta Texas and the proximity of the resort location to the park, shops and multiply restaurants made for a very fun weekend. The resort shuttle took us to 6 Flags so there was no parking hassle. They also picked up promptly. We even had the option of returning back to the hotel to rest, eat, change etc or just take a break from the heat and crowd of the park. The multiple pools at the resort, hiking trail and kids center were wonderful. We ate at the poolside often with excellent service. The highlight of the trip for the girls was the s'mores on the fire pit poolside each evening! The atmosphere, beautiful people, attentive staff and comfortable accommodations were such that we really did not want to leave. Highly recommend for couples as well.

Elegant but slightly neglected

Posted Oct 3, 2014
Pros: The proximity to I10 and The Shops at La Cantera.
Cons: Common areas, especially the patios, are in serious need of attention. The pools looked nice but I think, for kids, you can find a much better place.
Location: Good location for accessing both downtown and The a Hill Country towns. Fredericksburg should not be missed. We visited 4 wineries and Luckenbach.
Our recent three night stay was pleasant enough but I'm not sure it was worth the rate (including taxes and fees) we paid per night. Our room reflected the classic style they are going for, and was clean, well appointed and comfortable. Carpets in the hallways needed vacuuming in places. Landscaped areas and fountains looked neglected and the exercise room was lame. In fact I would say the common areas need more attention than the rooms. The staff, on the other hand, was helpful, friendly and seemed well trained. It wasn't a bad experience. It's just that I was expecting so much more.

Hotel needs a little updating. The room phone was a little abused and the TV remote was very slow. The views are great and staff service is good.

Above and beyond

Posted Aug 30, 2014
Pros: Location to UTSA and staff.
Cons: A little updating, hall carpeting, for example.
Location: La Cantera was a perfect spot for weary parents moving children to UTSA
My daughter has gluten and dairy intolerances. When we told our server at breakfast she was so on the ball, making sure that everything was prepared correctly, showing us the wrapper from the bread that was used for toast (Udi's) so that the breakfast was not only edible but tasty. It meant so much to us have someone care enough about my daughter's allergies. We will definitely be back!

Pool upgrades

Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: Location, views, golf courses.
Cons: Stingy with bathroom supplies such as shampoo, conditioner, etc
Location: Location is good only 10-15 minutes to downtown river walk area. Also convenient to Texas hill country. Fredericksburg was a fun day trip.
I understand the hotel is closing Nov 2 thru approximately spring break 2015 for pool and pool facilities upgrades. Pools and pool facilities did need an upgrade. Also pools needed more attention to cleanliness. It seems there were no day time staff assigned to keeping trash, etc out of the pool and pool areas.

Thank you for your recent review of your stay at our property. As you mentioned, the resort is planning an extensive transformation to the property later this year and into the beginning of the new year. Almost every area of the resort will be included in the transformation including our pools, spa, lobby, dining experiences and additional meeting space just to name a handful of our planned items. I hope you will allow us to welcome you back at that time and experience all of the new enhancements at La Cantera Hill Country Resort. - Yolanda Borrego, Reputation Manager

Incredible stay!

Posted Jul 29, 2014
Wow what an amazing experience we had! We literally did not leave the resort during our 4 day stay here with 3 kids under 8. There was SO much to do. From the incredible pools, to the awesome water slide, the Kid Zone activities, the beautiful one mile Nature Hike (FYI-not stroller friendly!), Discovery Junction (which had inflatables, basketball, ping pong, etc) S'mores every night, family bingo and movie night! The kids never got bored. And that's saying something! ;) The pool staff was amazing! Devin was our pool side server a couple of days and he really went above and beyond in his service to us. Give that kid a raise!! The Kids Zone staff were all very interactive with the kids. The girls enjoyed making bracelets and crafts and our son loved the video game room. We ate lunch here every day and the poolside menu was actually decently priced! When you consider the convenience of being waited on while you're lounging by the pool...you will gladly pay $7 for a kids chicken strip basket!! (Which two young kids can easily split) and $15-18 for an adult burger meal. So just go with a good budget for food/drinks! Overall, our stay was very relaxing, enjoyable and fun! We will definitely come back to La Cantera!!
