Like sleeping in the streets!Posted Apr 11, 2015
Pros: History was kind of cool. The Colonial restaurant had wonderful waitstaff and the food was delicious and not expensive.
Cons: Cleanliness and updates while keeping the nostalgia.
Location: We love the Worm Tequila Bar with great infused tequilas and blues music.......we also tried some of the newer restaurants like The Boiler Room Yummy!
Although it was easy to walk to the riverwalk and some fun local entertainment, the hotel was very noisy. People in the hallways were extremely loud each night and the people walking by outside were also loud. We could even hear our next door neighbor relieving himself in his bathroom. It was freezing in the room even though we had the air OFF but the fan would not stop blowing. There was mildew along the window panes and in the bathroom tiles. The carpeting was filthy. Even after my shower, walking around in the room barefooted made my feet dirty. Outside our door was a lovely bucket with a dirty towel shoved in it to catch the falling water from the watered down ceiling above. While the history of the place was nostalgic, my memories hopefully will soon be as well. I would not recommend this hotel to my friends.

Anniversary in S.AntonioPosted Apr 9, 2015
Pros: Covered above
Cons: Air conditioning control and accuracy in the room, esp. at night.
Location: GREAT location, next door to the Alamo, short, safe walk to the Riverwalk.. good shopping and restaurants.
The hotel location.. to the Alamo and Riverwalk.. was EXCELLENT. Our room was refurbished and comfortable, except a/c would go no lower than 73-74 degrees, warm in night. The bathroom was up from floor level, and clean. Loved the antique and historical aspects of lobby, restaurant, bar. Bar a great place at end of day/night to relax with a nightcap, then walk to room. I would return to the Menger if revisiting San Antonio. The city, the Texas history, draw my husband and I annually, as we are Colorado displaced native Texans.

The price reflect the hotelPosted Apr 6, 2015
The best thing about hotel was valet. Floor dirty and beds small. Internet and TV didn't work. One+ hours for maintence to come. And elevators out during our stay. Management did call and apologize. Otherwise not a decent hotel.

Decent hotel, cool history...Posted Apr 2, 2015
Pros: The history of the place is awesome. The bar is fantastic and the bartender was very knowledgeable about it all!!!
Cons: There was one front desk person and one wait staff in the restaurant that must have been having a bad day...everyone else was amazing!!!
Location: Right across the street from the Alamo and very short walk to the Riverwalk. Great location if that's what you're looking for.
The lobby and restaurant are beautiful...the rooms can use some updating.

Prime location to downtown, convention center. Outdated without the charm. Staff not particularly flexible or accommodating. Bedding and linens less than desirable.
