Near convention center and tourist area. Very Conv

Pros: It's not a cookie cutter modern motel. Lots of character and charm.
Cons: Fitness area. Carpet in rooms.
Location: Convenient to Alamo next door, RiverWalk and convention center. I would stay there again
Historic hotel with lots to appreciate. Rooms could probably stand some updating but mostly clean. Fitness area desperately needs new equipment. Restaurant is first class a with a wonderful breakfast and dinner. Run efficiently it seems.

An event in itself, great location!

Posted Mar 22, 2015
Pros: This was a charming hotel with all the features of the grand hotels of the past, but modernized for the times. Oh yes, and then there were the ghosts
Cons: Consistent wifi in the rooms, softer beds for those who prefere softer beds
Location: Next to Alamo, very short distance to heart of River Walk, tour buses, city transportation and standard tourist attractions across the street
We loved this hotel. Full of charm, beautifully furnished, the best of old and new. The location was great and the hotel itself is full of stories of its past, and the ghosts of many people who stayed there.

Pros: History and artifacts from the past, old beauty and charm, dining room

Location: The Alamo plaza and River walk nearby

Some Good....Some Not So Good!

Posted Mar 21, 2015
My family and I have enjoyed many stays at The Menger Hotel. The hotels lobby is beautiful. I so enjoy stepping back in time when I enter the lobby...big band music playing, the lovely furniture. It's wonderful! The absolute best thing about The Menger is it's location. It sits right on Alamo Plaza, next door to the Alamo and the Rivercenter Mall just a few steps to the Riverwalk. Those are the good things...here are the not do good...our room was essentially a Motel 6 type room. Very basic and bland. The beds were fairly firm...not comfortable to me. The bathroom was the worst. The tub didn't drain right. I stood in ankle deep water while showering that took 30 minutes to drain after showering. The cleanliness was a major issue for me. There were hairs all over the bathroom, stuck on the door and on the shower curtain...yuck! I think that the hotel is historic and lovely, just disappointed with the quality this time.

Great location

Posted Mar 18, 2015
The hotels location is perfect and there are a lot of activities within walking distance. The room was clean and my room had recently been remodeled. Only downfall for me was noise. There is construction going on outside of the hotel and it was quite noisy at times.

Nice hotel, close to Riverwalk.

The hotel was great. The bar staff and the gentleman who works in the Cigar Shop were also very nice. Front desk staff and valet have much to be desired. We waited a long time for our cars. The front desk staff that helped us seemed confused and kept giving us the wrong information about the cost of our room.

Great location but not much else

Posted Mar 18, 2015
Great location (right beside the Alamo and 5 minutes from the Riverwalk), but with limited facilities. Only one restaurant and one bar; neither of which are child friendly. Our room wasn't in the 'historic' part of the hotel shown in the photos either, but in a 70s style side wing, so the photos are a little misleading.
