Colonial Room Restaurant - This stately neoclassical restaurant has large arched windows overlooking a lush tropical garden. The restaurant serves American regional cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; and its signature mango ice cream has been on the menu for a century. The Colonial Room serves a lunch buffet Monday through Friday and Sunday brunch.
The Menger Bar - Teddy Roosevelt reportedly recruited some of his Rough Riders from this pub-style bar built in 1887. A replica of London's House of Lords Pub, it has a gleaming cherry paneled ceiling and walls, booth seating, and glass cabinets. The bar offers a selection of fine cigars.
The Historic Menger Hotel provides 24-hour room service.

“The Menger Hotel”
Overall the experience was fine. Two things got to us, though: 1. The lobby smelled (not so faintly) of sewage. 2. It was Thanksgiving and we wanted to go to a particular restaurant. The concierge had a staff member call, and they said the restaurant wasn't open. We went to a mediocre restaurant that the hotel suggested only to find our preference next door to where we ate and it was open.
“Was best value for money.”
Great historical hotel.recomanded.
“Overall OK”
- Close to the Alamo and the Riverwalk. - Less expensive than hotels on the Riverwalk. - OK hotel, not great. - Hotel staff was good, not great. - Breakfast was nice.
“The Menger”
I was pleasantly surprised to find the hotel I booked over the phone with Expedia was historic and right next door to the Alamo. My trip was sudden and I was unable to go online to choose any part of my trip. The phone agent from Expedia was very helpful finding me the right hotel for the right price. I highly recommend The Menger to anyone visiting San Antonio and heading to the Riverwalk. It's about 3 minutes to walk there from the hotel. If you're looking for shiny and new, this isn't the place. The Menger is historic and suited me fine.
“Great hotel with charming atmosphere”
Great hotel. Loved the history of the hotel & all the antiques & memorabilia in the lobby. Also loved the enclosed courtyard & pool areas. It was close to everything we wanted to see, like the Alamo, Riverwalk, Convention Center, & shopping. Just wish I'd had a longer stay so I could have enjoyed everything the hotel had to offer. Next time I visit San Antonio, I'd definitely consider staying here.
“Would definitely stay here again”
The Menger was the coolest hotel we have ever stayed in. It was like a museum inside with all the history of it. Was conveniently located to the Riverwalk , Alamo, and in walking distance of many other things. The mall was right around the corner and the trolleys were accesible from the entrance. However, we did not get to see a ghost during our visit, maybe next time.
“Dallas Traveler”
I visit San Antonio frequently and stay at a number of downtown hotels (Westin, Valencia, St. Anthony) in different categories and price ranges. I was curious to visit the Menger as it is a hotel that I stayed at with my parents as a child many years ago. Service was courteous but not overly friendly. The hotel's public areas are gorgeous and well kept. Regrettably, the rooms have not been as well cared for. The room was dusty and the furniture was shabby and worn. The bathroom was decent and clean but still lacking in attention to detail with unkept mirrors, a broken blowdryer and cheap toilet paper and tissues. My expectations for a hotel in that mid price range in a city like San Antonio were not met. The hotel has the potential to become a jewel if appropriately refurbished. However, today it is just another hotel that has seen better days.
“And when did they last buy sheets?”
The location is great as is the history of the hotel, but my sheets had holes in them! The room had not been touched decor wise since the 90's. Really disappointed.
“Great San Antonio Hotel”
I stepped out of the box on this business trip and stayed at the Menger. A Beautiful hotel with friendly staff and it is centrally located in downtown San Antonio with a very short walk to the convention center and riverwalk. I will be staying there again next year.
“Great Location!”
Hotel was perfectly located...literally right next to the Alamo and 2 minutes to the RiverWalk. I couldn't ask for a better spot!
