Perfect location!Posted Mar 6, 2014
Pros: Location, history of the hotel and the staff.
Cons: I like it the way it is. It was unseasonably cold in San Antonio and the room was a little chilly however; I was fine.
Location: The Riverwalk is a minute walk and the Alamo is right next door. The tour buses leave outside the hotel too. Does location get any better?
This hotel is right where you want to be. It does not have the amenities of a Marriott or Hyatt however; this place has style.

Refinement...Posted Mar 3, 2014
Pros: High ceilings in room, lobby is magnificent.
Cons: The room I stayed in needs much improvement as far as insulation, furniture, and amenities.
Location: Plenty of FUN bars, imax, mall, eateries, it's downtown people..
First off, arrival and entry into the hotel is impressive. The layout and design of this antique hotel is chic. I'm not going to touch basis on the design since most people rent a room they want to know the quality of the room and not so much the rest of the hotel. So with that said, my girlfriend and I were immediately disappointed when we entered the room. I mean even the door seemed lacking in quality and insulation mind you. We did a test on the acoustics with her standing inside the room with the door closed and me outside the room. Every word was audible at just normal speech volume.....the rest, well you get the picture. It was quite evident that this hotel had in mind that it's customers only wanted a room to *sleep* and *shower* in and not much else. The room was tiny, and the bed was La Quinta Inn quality, upgraded from queen to king size. The toilet made a funny, loud, obnoxious honk noise after each flush and the shower was average, I did however like that the room and closet had high ceilings. But that was the most luxurious feature this room had to offer. AC would not get cold, luckily it's not summer yet. GREEN carpet. Online pics look ages better than in person. Unless you seek nostalgia, please for the price steer clear of this place. I have a mystery charge of 18 dollars, and valet is $30 if some are wondering.

DisappointedPosted Mar 2, 2014
Pros: The staff and the decor
Cons: Complimentary bath gowns would be good, larger towels and fix the shower
Location: Riverside restaurants were excellent and of course the Alamo was magical
The staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly. The ambience was also excellent in the lobby area and dining room. But so far as We were concerned that's all I can say that was good about this hotel. The shower was hopeless, the carpeting in the room was frayed and shabby. The bed was too short and uncomfortable. The pipe work across the ceiling looked awful. Don't expect the usual refinements you normally get with other hotels. We are touring all around Texas staying in many different hotels, in my opinion the Menger has to be the least enjoyed.

A step back in HistoryPosted Feb 24, 2014
Pros: We enjoyed how personable and friendly the staff was and we felt "right at home".
Location: Very centrally located - across the street from the Alamo and River Walk - access to the Mall.
The Menger Hotel was a delight! We had a personal tour by its General Manager who enlightened us with his knowledge of the hotel's history. The entire staff from front desk, to bellmen, to room service and maids were courteous and most accommodating.

Hotel was the perfect location.Posted Feb 24, 2014
Pros: Location and history
Cons: Little noisy at times during the night.
Location: So much to do!
The hotel was the perfect location for a group of people to stay and experience all there is to do and see in San Antonio. Lovely lobby and we enjoyed the morning coffee as we met to decide what to do for the day!!

omg.. is all I can say!Posted Feb 22, 2014
Reserved the room via Expedia to celebrate our 6 year anniversary... I think that is where the first mistake happened. We booked a double room and the web site (even the hotel's website) showed a double to look like the pictures attached... However, we checked in and the room we got was (if it is even 75 sq ft, that is a big over estimation)... attached is a picture I took myself... room 3085, if you ger this one change it before you walk away from the front desk... I called down to see if I could get my room switched to something a little more like what was advertised, the lady upfront (and even the manager) told me that since I used Expedia to book the room i got what i got... to basically DEAL WITH IT... The room was NOT what was advertised, the staff was plain rude and full of attitude and to top things off the price I was told we would be charged for Valet ($28 per day, was actually $50 because they raised prices and never updated their web site... go figure... This hotel sucks, as someone that travels (have been to many places all over the world) this room is the absolute worst room i have ever stayed in... Truthfully, Motel 6 would so be an improvement. If you are looking to stay in this hotel, don't. Go elsewhere... or your trip will suck... update (day two - added 2 more stars...) after a night in hell in room 3085 the manager (Mr. Mercedes?) moved us to a better room ... so at least we will finish the trip on a good note! thank you!

This is supposed to be the most haunted building in the world but we have not seen any ghost as they have moved to a better place. Don't blame them!

Excellent historic hotel near everything downtownPosted Feb 19, 2014
Pros: History, elegant architecture, great service, location.
Cons: The room was very chilly, and the temp didn't change at all when the thermostat was turned up. An extra blanket helped.
Location: The Alamo is across the street and Riverwalk is right next door. There is an IMAX theater at the mall also next door.
My Menger Hotel stay was a great experience from the attentive and friendly staff to the wonderful history and convenient location. It is a historic hotel so don't expect all the amenities of a large chain hotel.
