Great location!Posted Jul 27, 2014
Very tiny rooms and needs major updating. You can hear all the noise from the outside. Restrooms are very old looking and ugly. But it's in walking distance to everything!

Beautiful historic hotelPosted Jul 27, 2014
Pros: Desserts and historic nature.
Cons: Bathroom - tubs and flooring need to be replaced. Walls need new paint.
Location: Alamo, river walk and shopping.
We love the Menger. We enjoyed the pool, the courtyard and strolled around the victorian side of the hotel hoping to catch a perk of the famed ghosts. Room badly need a makeover. (Keep victorian furniture, but replace carpet, tub and paint walls). We had wonderful mango ice cream and creme brûlée at the restaurant. Tried the chocolate cake, too, but it was a little dried out. It is a short walk to the river walk and across the street from the Alamo and great shopping. Overall, we love this place and will keep coming back.

We stayed for a long weekend during our son's graduation from basic training. It was so relaxing. The history of the place was amazing!

Great hotel, great location.Posted Jul 21, 2014
Beautiful room, nice staff. Hotel is within walking distance to Riverwalk and downtown. The hotel atmosphere is quiet, elegant, and relaxed. Rooms are spotless and in great condition. Warning to anyone 6-feet tall or more: The beds in the historic section of the hotel include foot boards as well as head boards. This makes the beds a bit tight for that height. Would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful Getaway!Posted Jul 21, 2014
Great place to stay! Loved the location! We absolutely love the historic ambience of the hotel. Very relaxing! The Mango Ice Cream is a must. The one negative was picking up car from valet parking. 30 minute wait. Will stay here again.

Great locationPosted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: Location, and the history. It is Beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. The pool was amazing and the hot tub was great!
Cons: Was not pleased with the hard as a rock full sized bed. They should honestly think about moving up to a queen with a better mattress
Location: across the street there is Ripley's adventures, carriage rides at night and the Alamo. About a block away is the Riverwalk and Great Food!
We loved the location. So close to literally everything we wanted to see. Never had to drive. Over all I really liked it. You shouldn't expect huge rooms. It's an old hotel and the rooms are true to the era. The pool and hot tub were lovely. And the staff was amazing. Even had a welcome call in our room, just to make sure we had everything we needed or if we had any questions. Was not pleased with the hard as a rock full sized bed. They should honestly think about moving up to a queen. Even though the room was small, It would work. We didn't get a good night's sleep because of the bed. The room was small, but we were expecting that since it is an older hotel, and the size of the rooms are to the size of the times it was originally built. The valet was a nightmare. There were these guys who pretty much just dropped their keys off and said hey take care of this and walked away, when the guys were busy trying to get the cars for the guests checking out. The gentleman that got my car had to park on the street because there was no way to get around this one rude customer. It is really too bad about the beds though. If you like firm, then this is for you. but if not, bring a mattress pad of your own.

The bill was not ready. Asked the front desk for our bill and they were rude. Asked for the manager and he was rude. Room felt musty. Chairs on balony were hard.

Pros: Decor and atmosphere were great. Ghost tour available.
Cons: Attention to detail. Minor things can make a big difference. No beers on tap.
Location: Riverwalk, Alamo all right there. Plenty of restaurants and bars within easy walking distance.
Very nice place to stay. Room looked out at the Alamo's east wall. Minor disappointments - the bar has no beers on tap; the food quality at the restaurant wasn't up to par with the rest of the place; the last occupant's partially used lotion and shampoo were left in the room along with a room key.
