Great historic hotel.

Posted Sep 1, 2014
Pros: Hi historical nature and it was close to the Convention Center.
Cons: The shower was a bit old fashioned. Of course, that's the point of an historic hotel.
Location: The Alamo.
If you want history, this hotel is for you. Ghosts and all!

Nice historic hotel

Posted Aug 27, 2014
Pros: The long Texas history
Cons: All of the public areas
Location: Locations cannot be beat
Whereas the rooms are clean and reasonably renovated, the hallways, elevator and HVAC in the public areas could be much improved.

Historic family Trip, see the Alamo

Posted Aug 26, 2014
Pros: Great location to everything, cool memoribilla right in the hotel, pics and letters from famous and historic folks that stayed there, nice pool/gardens
Cons: Parking is really expensive, weird airfreshner smell in the elevators gave a filmy coating in our mouths and a bit of a headache,
Location: Location rocked!!easy walk to Riverwalk, downtown and right at the Alamo!
Perfect place to stay for us. We only had 1 night and 2 half days to explore and show our 10 year old the sites.

Quaint older hotel full of history

Posted Aug 25, 2014
Pros: The atmosphere, pool and bar
Cons: The rooms did a little air freshener. It is an older hotel but there was a bit of a musty smell in our room.
Location: There are great restaurants right on the river and of course the Alamo is right next door. This hotel has the best location!
We loved our stay at this hotel! It was so quaint and full of history. They honestly had the best staff I have ever seen. Customer service was top notch! We were served in a timely, friendly manner. They have the best pool in downtown San Antonio with a pool side wait staff to serve us. We really loved our stay and can not wait to go back!

Good hotel, close to all the great tourist areas.

Posted Aug 25, 2014
Pros: Great breakfast and excellent Buffett and the hotel was clean!
Cons: The hot water and parking fees
Location: The Alamo, the Church, shopping, good places to eat, and the Riverwalk were all walking distance
Good experience considering it was being remodeled. The hot water in the shower was inconsistent. The Alamo, shopping, places to eat and the Riverwalk were all nearby and all within walking distance. The only bad thing was the parking, the fees were atrocious and too expensive.

Historical hotel next to the Alamo

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: I enjoyed the history of the hotel and it's location to everything. The staff was friendly and helpful. The dining room superb.
Cons: I found the hotel made my stay in San Antonio totally amazing. The hotel was lovely and so historical.
Location: The Menger Hotel was across the street from the Alamo, next to the shopping mall, next to the Riverwalk. next to tour/travel info centers. Perfect!
I booked the Menger Hotel through Expedia with my flight. The hotel was even more beautiful than I expected. It was so historical as well. To think that I was sitting where Teddy Roosevelt had organized his Rough Riders was just amazing. My flights were delayed both ways but the stay at this hotel made up for those inconveniences. The Menger Hotel was in a perfect location for walking and sightseeing. It was near everything! I will stay there again for sure!

Historic hotel shows its age.

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: Its location and history.
Cons: Clean the carpets.
Location: Alamo, Tower of the Americas, Riverwalk, etc.
Although the rooms were generally clean, the halls smelled of stale tobacco smoke.

great location and staff

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: great location and staff (especially at reception). Fantastic Sunday brunch with eggs benedict, mimosa and all the frills.
Cons: the parking garage is chaotic
Location: The Alamo is across you room and you are in the heart of the historic district. For an oustanding meal try Le Frite Belgian Bistro on S Alamo Street.
Great location and helpful staff. Enjoyed our stay.
