Great hotel, great location.Posted Jul 21, 2014
Beautiful room, nice staff. Hotel is within walking distance to Riverwalk and downtown. The hotel atmosphere is quiet, elegant, and relaxed. Rooms are spotless and in great condition. Warning to anyone 6-feet tall or more: The beds in the historic section of the hotel include foot boards as well as head boards. This makes the beds a bit tight for that height. Would definitely stay there again.

Your are paying for locationPosted Jul 21, 2014
If Location is key and you do not like modern, then this is your hotel. Very historical hotel.

The bill was not ready. Asked the front desk for our bill and they were rude. Asked for the manager and he was rude. Room felt musty. Chairs on balony were hard.

Pros: Decor and atmosphere were great. Ghost tour available.
Cons: Attention to detail. Minor things can make a big difference. No beers on tap.
Location: Riverwalk, Alamo all right there. Plenty of restaurants and bars within easy walking distance.
Very nice place to stay. Room looked out at the Alamo's east wall. Minor disappointments - the bar has no beers on tap; the food quality at the restaurant wasn't up to par with the rest of the place; the last occupant's partially used lotion and shampoo were left in the room along with a room key.

They don't build them like this anymore.Posted Jul 17, 2014
Pros: Location Location Location. Right next door to the Alamo, steps away from the convention centre, right near the Riverwalk.
Location: The Riverwalk is fantastic, I had a great time walking along the river with its cafes and shops, and there are people everywhere. You feel very safe.
The Menger is a classic old hotel. So it is bound to be different than one that was built within the last 20 years. But it is not lacking in anything. The rooms are comfortable, and clean, there is a beautiful classic B&W tile the bathroom. WIFI was free and strong. The Air Conditioning worked as well -- yes you may want to know that. No problems with the staff, everyone cheerful. Everyone. Great staff in the Menger bar. this is a historic old bar and you have to come here. You owe it to yourself to stay at this hotel.

Great Historic Hotel and kept well restored.Posted Jul 16, 2014
Pros: The Merger Bar has a great classical look and the wood and overall style and experience. One night we sat at a corner table and last night at the Bar.
Cons: cannot think of a thing.
Location: Great location The Alamo is next door and 2 short blocks to the river walk and a lot of variety of shops across the Alamo square front of the Merger.
The whole first floor of the Merger Hotel is like a Museum of history dating back to 1859.

Central and Historical, But That's ItPosted Jul 15, 2014
The location is absolutely fantastic; across the street from the Alamo and in the heart of downtown right next to the Riverwalk and shops. The hotel itself is beautiful with charming memorabilia. Unfortunately there is no parking lot so valet is necessary for an additional $30 a night. There are not enough outlets in the rooms for personal electronic devices. Paint is sagging off of walls, carpets are wrinkled, and beds are not the most comfortable. Some of the staff members were great (morning desk, housekeeping, and valet) and some were awful. The coffee machine in my room was also broken to my disappointment. Lastly, the walls are so thin I could hear conversations in the rooms next to me. I probably won't stay here again.

Old Wet DogPosted Jul 14, 2014
The room smelled like a wet dog or a cat lady's house. The tv didn't work and it was very dark. I get the want to make the hotel a "historic" place to stay, but it REALLY could use an update. Would never stay there again.

Guest services werent very friendly!Posted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: The convenience!
Cons: friendlier atmosphere!
Location: The location is great! So close to the river walk and alamo!
The bell boy was super nice! The rooms were very clean just tiny! The valet was rude and so were the front desk personel and we were on our honeymoon!
