It will be GRAND!

Posted Oct 13, 2014
Pros: The staff were outstanding making us feel like valued customers!
Cons: They are working on it.
Location: Within Walking distance to the Riverwalk. We enjoyed the Antique Warehouse just around the corner.
This is a beautiful old hotel that is currently in need of a little TLC and currently it is receiving it! They are in the midst of a major renovation with new rooms expected to become available around Christmas time (I think that is what they said) If you can be patient and overlook the construction (we didn't have any bother with noise they only work through the day) This is an opportunity to stay at a 5 star hotel that is filled with beautiful chandeliers, marble floors, expansive stair case, posh furniture...... Very Grand, the staff are all very dedicated and very attentive, from the doorman, front desk, maid service and even a manager that I met in the elevator. If you are looking for good value for your $ this is an excellent time to stay with them. The prices have been reduced to compensate for the construction.

Rebirth of a Legend

Posted Oct 5, 2014
Pros: Old World Charm Great Service Close to The River Walk
Cons: Again, there is construction going on; but we were not disturbed at all.
Location: You are a short walking distance from The River Walk, The Alamo, Ripley's, the mall, and right across the street from the park.
We were looking for something near The River Walk and relatively inexpensive. This hotel was a fair amount cheaper than most in the area, and since we were only staying 1 night, we thought we'd give it a try. Beginning the minute we pulled up till the minute we left, the service was incredible. From the valet/doormen to the front desk, and room service every experience was great. The hotel was under construction, so the halls leading to our hotel room had plastic covering carpet and there was some sign of construction in the halls. Once we arrived in our room it was like we were taken back to the hotel's earlier days of splendor. A 4-post bed and high-back chair adorn the bedroom along with the usual desk, dresser, and table, all period furnishings. Vintage tile and fixtures in the bath room added to its charm. If you are looking for modern high-end hotel with all the bells and whistles, this is not yet it, however if you like to experience a taste of the past, and are a little adventurous, this is definitely the place for you. There are not many hotels I say this about, but I am looking forward to returning to the St Anthony the next time we come to San Antonio.

Amazing staff overshadowed construction

Posted Oct 3, 2014
Pros: The staff is top-notch and the food was fresh and delicious :)
Cons: If possible, a floor by floor remodel would probably be better for some guests.
Location: Great location and an easy 2-block walk to the Riverwalk.
It is true this hotel is currently going through complete renovations, but the staff (and affordable price) made our experience fun and memorable. We do love historic buildings so staying in an original, non-renovated room was actually quite fun. The comfortable four poster bed and beautiful antique furniture made it so much more fun than a typical chain hotel room. In the morning when the maid pressed the door bell instead of the usual knock-knock we smiled and agreed we made the right choice in hotels. It is true that construction is going on during the day, and you'll probably smell fresh paint or dust in the hallways. But the rooms are clean, the staff is great, the food in amazing, and if you want a hotel that's historic and charming, and changing to what looks to be gorgeous and opulent, give it a shot! We were glad we did :)

Pros: Location
They should have done the renovations a few floors at a time instead of each floor at the same time.

Fine selection in downtown San Antonio, despite the renovations and accompanying dust.
