Good but not great
Overall our stay at Finca Luna Nueva Lodge was good. We stayed in the Dome Suite which was great and very unique. However after reading reviews online I was expecting more from the hotel in general. The evening meal was a buffet as the restaurant does not serve the a la carte menu when there are over 25 guest dining - this was the case every evening we were there and we felt was disappointing. The breakfast buffet was very average, and if you arrived later than 7.30am there was no yogurt left (despite asking for more). The pool and jacuzzi area require a bit of an uplift too, a number of sunloungers were damaged and the jacuzzi needs a repaint. The staff were friendly and the service was again good but not great. We enjoyed our time staying at Luna Nueva but I’m not sure we’d stay again if we were to go back to La Fortuna.

Such a relaxing atmosphere! The staff are so helpful and friendly when you need anything, but don’t hover over you if you don’t. We came during the rainy season, and would do it over again in a heartbeat! They have a sloth that lives in one of the trees close to the pool, everything on the campus is within easy walking distance so you can park the car for the whole time without leaving for anything if you want. So relaxing, so beautiful, such amazing staff, wonderful food, lovely atmosphere. 10/10 would do again!!

Excellent spot in the rainforest
Restaurant, atmosphere & everyone working at the lodge are what make the place very special. If you have food restrictions and/or want healthy options & fresh produce, you’ll want every meal at their poolside restaurant. Staff is awesome & very pura vida. Easy to organize transport & tours but like the rest of the country, the cost will add up quickly so be sure to budget for that depending on what you want to see. Grounds of hotel are lovely with a nice rainforest hike and an option to visit their working farm. Pool, hammocks & nice outdoor spaces all around the property & I spied iguanas, toucans and a sloth from the common spaces! You’re in the middle of the rainforest and you’ll hear geckos/perhaps one will sneak into your room. If this is to be stressful for you, you’ll have a hard time in CR, generally. Will suggest that if you are a light sleeper, perhaps the family bungalows will be better. The smaller rooms are upstairs with all-wood construction so if someone walks into the room around the corner, you’ll hear their feet on the creaky wood. Not a big deal, but if looking for total quiet, their larger rooms may be better. Great stay and highly recommend!

Quiet, calm place in the middle of the rainforest, perfect for a relaxing vacation! There was so much wildlife to explore on site, we even saw some sloths! It was quite humid and a bit rainy (travelled in January) - but to be expected from the rainforest! Did not negatively impact our trip whatsoever. The staff was lovely and the fresh food from the farm was AMAZING!! Definitely try their kombucha. There is tons to do to on site and off site in terms of tours! But be aware that it is a 30 USD cab ride into town and more if you're travelling further. If you are comfortable definitely rent a car as travelling expenses can add up.

Lovely for a retreat, far away from everything
The lodge is unique and lovely. The food was delicious and very clean/wholesome. Please know that you are pretty far out from everything including La Fortuna. If you don't have a car, and plan to leave the lodge this is a factor. There was a problem with the reservation as our group thought they were getting the entire house of "casa Luna". Instead it was just one room for 7 guests. The lodge worked to fix this, and I'm sure there were some cultural/language barriers in play, but it was still dissapointing. All the staff were friendly, professional and accommodating. Our room was noisy when our neighbors moved around at night. Ear plugs solved that problem. The wifi was spotty in done areas.

Authentic and beautiful but with a few rough edges
We stayed at Finca Luna Nueva Lodge as a family of four on our first two nights in Costa Rica. We arrived in Costa Rica and drove straight there from the airport. We consider the nights at Finca Luna Nueva as the most authentic experiences of Costa Rica, the hospitality was great and we learned lots about the wildlife and natural beauty. There were some negatives for the teenagers in the group. They didn't like the more basic accomodation and the fact that the wifi didn't reach out as far as the lodge we stayed in. The central wifi near the restaurants was fine. They didn't get as much out of the excellent (and free for guests) orientation tour or the superb chocolate making tour which the adults thought were highlights of the entire trip. I should also mention the roads from the airport are fine but as you get into the immediate vicinity of the hotel they become steep and rocky and more typical of the challenging roads in Costa Rica. A four wheel drive is recommended. The stiffest test is whether we would go back - and the answer is yes, but not with the kids. They didn't appreciate the sheer beauty of the natural setting, how authentic and genuine the host's enthusiasm for organic farming is, the fresh farm to table food. For them, a more sanitised and comfortable eco-resort would have been preferable and to be fair, with some money spent to upgrade the existing site, the owners could get the best of both worlds and probably would be able to charge more per room.

Ecological, friendly and close to Nature
The setting is beautiful, an easy 20Km from La Fortuna and provides an experience of living out in Nature but with all the comfort, yet ecological. The staff is very friendly and helpful at all levels. The food is fabulous and our special delight was the freshly home-made kefir and other typical delicacies in a copious morning buffet. The soups and many other menu items offered for lunch and dinner are simply wonderful. Even though the Arenal area provides for many great tours, we also enjoyed staying by the pool, walking the "mystery path" in the forest and simply enjoying the calm and peacefulness of the Finca Luna Nueva. A place to which we will happily return.

Amazing location - but we didn't have car and had to rely on expensive taxis and guides to see things. Due to lack of public transport you feel a bit forced into spending. The receptionist assistance was a little basic and i felt suspicious that every thing we did the price was negotiated on phone by receptionist - we did nothing out of ordinary and thought the prices would be established - but this place is beautiful and the Eco side of v impressive.

Great hotel, surrounded by nature
20 minutes away from Fortuna, the Finca Luna is truly and completely surrounded by the rainforest. All of the staff were very friendly and helped us organize tours nearby (we did whitewater rafting, ziplining, and the hot springs. Would recommend all of them). Food on the whole was incredible. The chocolate tour was great; we learned about the history of chocolate and even made our own! Would be interesting to most, I would guess. Included in the stay is a tour of the hotels farm where a lot of the food is grown; we, unfortunately, did not have time to take this tour, but we did walk around the farm, which was very pleasant. For nature lovers in the Arenal area, this hotel is a must.

Eco-lodge in rain forest
This is an eco-lodge experience, so there is no A/C, no TV, lukewarm water, no ice and very basic accommodations. That said, it is very beautiful and peaceful and has a lovely pool. Wifi is available in the dining room, pool area, and main reception area and a few of the rooms. The meals are tasty but very simple with small portions. We did not know until we arrived that there is no alcohol or soda sold on the grounds, but you are welcome to make the half-hour trip back down the very twisty unpaved road to La Fortuna to get some, which they will allow you to drink in the dining room for no set-up fee. They request you not bring food into your room because of insects, so there is no food available between meals. (We kept almonds and hard candy in ziplock bags and had no problem with insects.) They offer several tours (of the farm and the seed bank and the rainforest around the site) for additional fees.

A little remote, but certainly worth the drive.
I was looking to take my family to a non-typical place where they might have a different experience and actually learn something - and finca Luna accomplished that and them some. Farm tour was outstanding - got to walk and eat our way through fruits and vegetables I had never seen or heard of. Also - we had our best dinner of the trip at the restaurant. Staff even kept the restaurant open late as we were late returning that night. Staff was friendly and very helpful. They made reservations for various La Fortuna/Arenal attractions. Danny even found a hotel on Jaco Beach for us for later in our trip. I would arrive during daylight on my first day there as it us remote, but certainly worth the drive. I hope to return there again!

Great place but let down by reception management
Great place and very nice and committed people. However, when we tried to pay by credit card at the end, an incompetent staff member got 2 of my credit cards blocked because he thought he had to type in the hotel code when asked for the pin! After 3 attempts the cards were blocked and I could not get them unblocked whilst in Costa Rica.

It was good. We stayed 2 nights. But it is hard to find, roads are unpaved. But it is in the middle of a rain forest and very relaxing. Saw a lot of birds. If you are travelling ith seniors, it may not be the place for you. It is further out in the wilderness. Food was average but expensive.

Wonderful Ecolodge Experience!
Our family of 3 stayed in one of the individual bungalows and loved the experience! Not luxury accommodations, but that wasn't what we wanted or expected. La Finca had everything we needed - clean, comfortable rooms, beautiful grounds with wildlife, trails and a working farm, a great pool and hot (warm) tub, and tasty local-style meals available from the lodge restaurant.

Terrible. Too expensive for what you get. I think The owners should focus on The finca and leave The hotel side To someone with knowledge. Or just charge The half. Although Costa Rica is expensive for that money you get better places!!!

A very nice surprise
We booked this trip after about 5 min consideration on a last minute decision to make our way from Tamarindo to drive past Lake Arenal before sunset. The people and the place are beautiful with a somewhat remote location (totally worth it). Christian and Stephen and others treated the small group of lodgers like personal guests of this Eco lodge and organic farm. The value for our money went way beyond our expectations with wonderful home grown and home cooked local fare. The pool/garden area was very serene and fun for our kids. The night swim was reall cool with all the jungle sounds around us. The staff working here seemed to treat each other and us like family We stayed 1.5 days but would have liked more time. Hopefully we can return again some day, this is a great base to explore the area from and great people to point you in the right direction. Thanks to everyone at Finca Luna Nueva for a really beautiful and informative stay. We wish you all much success with your farm business, your mission and your research into regenerative farming

While it was a bit difficult to find, the place is a gem once you find it. Food is delicious, staff is very friendly, and rooms are clean. I would recommend to have a 4x4 if driving. We chose this place by accident and this was hands down a wonderful and memorable stay - a highlight to our first trip in Costa Rica.

Great place, but a few caveats
Although the farm has beatifully groomed trails loaded with wildlife, the staff are either disinterested or downright unwilling to provide any information or maps of the grounds. It's understandable that they would like you to hire guides, but I found the vagueness about the destination and length of the trails frustrating. Also, there is no alcohol for sale on the premises, so stock up on cervesas to bring to the farm if you want one after a big hike. Otherwise, the farm is beautiful, relaxed and the food is excellent and plentiful.

great place to get away from it all
It was perfect for us. There was rainforest to hike in on the property and it was still close enough to La Fortuna (45 minutes) to drive up there for the hanging bridges hike and for dinner one evening. The only draw back was the buffet dinners didn't offer enough protein and seconds on the chicken or fish was not available. The food was delicious, but there wasn't enough of it for me.
