Dirty and uncomfortable place

Posted Apr 16, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Everything
Dirty carpet, uncomfortable bed. Price is the only attraction. Slow and old elevator

Inexpensive last minute decision.

Posted Apr 8, 2014
Pros: I was able to sleep indoors for the night.
Cons: Staff service regarding parking information.
Didn't do my homework so I was suprised to find the room had no private bath/shower; had to use shared facilities down the hall. Arrived late and the public parking (only option) was closed/locked so I had to part several blocks away. Desk staffperson tried to be helpful but had no knowledge about alternate parking options (I did the runaround for 20 minute or so). Common areas kind of run down.

Nice Hotel With Communal Showers

Posted Apr 7, 2014
Pros: Clean, easy to find, nearby parking garage, nice staff.
Cons: The TV was pretty tiny but it had a fine image. The communal restrooms were a bit of a surprise but were clean and were only an issue late at night.
Location: Easy to find, walking distance to many restuarants and bars. Pretty older building with a nice cafe on the first floor. Metered and parking garage.
The hotel was nice and clean and the staff was nice, polite and professional. Either I did not read the hotel description well enough or the Expedia description did not indicate that the restrooms/showers are communal. This was not really a big issue because there were sufficient number of restrooms that I did not have to wait and the restrooms were quite clean. However, I found it a bit annoying to have to get dressed to use the restroom in the middle of the night. Overall, the 500 West Hotel was nice and inexpensive option to stay in San Diego during a busy convention weekend. Since I was traveling alone it was a fitting accommodation.

You get what you pay for.

It's fine for the price, but it's not nice. The street side rooms can be noisy, you can hear EVERYTHING happening on your floor. The bathrooms are shared and the showers weren't draining properly, some of the toilet didn't flush properly. It was just kind of grimy.

Nothing fancy great proximity to train - excellent breakfast - very reasonable price - bathroom facilities and room were a bit rough.

Cheap and stayable

Posted Mar 26, 2014
Great location. The hotel is close to public transit, airport, trolly station. Its very easy to get from this location to major san diego attractions. The room is very small though and not in its best condition. It comes with a closet and a very small tv. Shared bathrooms but they are kept clean. I was told that you only get room service every other day, not everyday. If you are looking for a cheap place to stay in and spend most of your time in san diego and not in the hotel, then this is a good place to stay in.

I wasn't to excited how the rooms look, but I love the downtown view.
