Close to SDSU

Posted Jul 28, 2015
We went to SDSU for orientation and stayed at the BW. Clean, but slight smell. Great location to the campus. Breakfast is in a small room, but several grab-and-go options...oatmeal, bagels, muffins, apples, oranges, juice. Heard the noise from the people up above, thin walls. I would stay there again, though. Great front office ladies who gave us dinner options nearby and the SDSU student working behind the desk was excellent...even had a map to campus that SHE put together for guests. Nice!

A jewel.

VERY well maintained hotel showing pride of ownership. Pleasant reception desk staff, small kitchen in our spotlessly clean room, nice breakfast, comfy bed, big pool w/heated spa, no pet surcharge, free WiFi... What more could one ask for? A charming small hotel that's a rare find. We'll definitely be back.

Centralized location

Posted Jul 6, 2015
Pros: Clean, great breakfast, nice staff, great location.
Cons: Elevators or notification that there aren't any on the web page.
Location: Near zoo, Balboa Park, Coronado Island, beaches, dog beach, piers, San Diego State, etc.
We didn't realize what a great location this was. We had never been to San Diego and never heard of I-8, but we spent a lot of time going in both directions o I-8. Easy access, centralized to many different venues. We were really pleased.

Not as nice as pictures appear.

The place was fairly decent but definitely not as nice as the pictures online. Although I myself don't smoke, members of my group do and the only two areas are inside the pool or by the front office to check in which we were informed the second day of our stay after members of party had smoked outside on balcony or at end of stairwell. Received a call stating that we would receive a 250.00 fine for smoking outside of the areas which i had to ask where they were. Not good areas with children being present at both.

Family vacation

Great place for a great price! The manager upgraded our room when we checked in early..nice surprise! The room was very clean and well maintained. The grounds were also well maintained. The breakfast offerings were nice. They provided a nice range of options... Oatmeal, cold cereal, muffins, pastries, bagles, coffee, tea, apple juice, orange juice, milk, waffles. The location is not very "touristy" but it isn't far from tourist attractions if you don't mind driving. It is very close to SDSU so I could see it being used for campus visits. Overall a great experience, would use again and recommend to others.

Pros: Overall, the hotel is clean. I love the room and the room service they provided. I will stay at the hotel again if I go to San Diego next time.
Cons: The only thing the hotel should improve is breakfast.
I came to the hotel late around 11pm. After checking, I found out there was no refrigerator and microwave in the room (when I booked the room through Expedia, it showed the refrigerator and microwave included). I talked to the receptionist, she told me that she made a note for the manager to take care next day. The second day I was there, I talked to the receptionist again, she told me that she got a note but she had no chance to discuss with the manager. That made me a little bit upset. She told me based on my booking, there was no refrigerator and microwave included. The hotel would not be responsible for it due to booking through Expedia, not directly to the hotel. I felt there was cheating here. Then, I asked for the manager, the receptionist told me she would talk to the manager and found out. After 20 minutes, she called me and confirmed there was no refrigerator and microwave included based on my booking. That made me really upset but I was on my vacation, it also was the time for me to go to SeaWorld with my family. I told her that I would talk to them again when I was back at night. When I came back to the hotel, there was a big surprise that they put the refrigerator in my room (that was the one I really needed). I actually did not need microwave. At last, we were happy especially my children.

Excellent for the price

Pros: Breakfast was good and parking very close to room.
Cons: Breakfast area very small. Needs perhaps to be in a larger room.
Could not ask for anything better. Great location to I-8 and downtown San Diego
