Fabulous Shelter Island Marina and Bay position

Posted Mar 30, 2015
Pros: everything!
Cons: shuttle to and from nearby airport would have been great.
Location: hard to beat this location overlooking the Bay and views to downtown San Diego. Plenty to do on bike or walking but you really need a car to explore.
excellent staff from reception through to cleaners. Nothing was too much for them and they were always ready to help. Our room was clean and functional and the disabled bathroom was extra large for us. Restaurant was excellent overlooking the pool and spa, as was the gym and free bike use.

Quiet hotel, nice view

Posted Mar 30, 2015
Pros: Quiet, marina side rooms are fairly private and have a great view, great pools and hotubs
Cons: Make guests aware of the free parking available
Location: Several restaurants a 10-15 minute walk away, a 15-20 min drive to most nearby attractions such as SeaWorld ect (you will need transit or a car).
This is a perfect place to stay if you want a quiet place in San Diego that is away from the busy downtown but still a close drive to nearby tourist attractions. The rooms are clean and there are big showers but no bathtub. The marina side gives you a great view of the harbour. Parking is $10 per day at the hotel but you can park across the street in the marina parking for free. Hotel staff did not make us aware of this so we didn't find out until the last day but they reversed the charges. The front desk staff are very friendly and polite though. There is coin laundry available. There are 2 big pools and hot tubs. We often used them in the evening and I noticed that towels, garbage ect had not been cleaned up from the daytime so it would be nice if this was done in the afternoon so it looks nicer for the evening swimmers. The rooms have small fridges that are on 2 hour timers so each time you open it, make sure to set the timer again because it works more like a cooler. Overall, this hotel was a relaxing, nice place to come back to at the end of a long day.

Nice, modern hotel to relax

Posted Mar 29, 2015
I stayed at the hotel for three nights in March 2015 as part of a three week road trip of the West coast with my partner. San Diego and this hotel was out last stop before heading back to the UK. This hotel was nice, modern and clean. The hotel staff I interacted with were knowledgeable and friendly. There isn't much around the hotel itself - its on Shelter Island which looks back over downtown - some great views especially at night. We had a car and relied on this a fair amount to get around and do stuff. There is two nice malls for anyone wanting to do some shopping which aren't too far. 25 minutes south there is also on the last exit before Mexico border a large outlet village which we thought was good. The parking isn't free at the hotel, however there is a large carpark opposite on the waterside which is free and you can park here for at least 72 hours, leaving and arriving when you wish. Other campervans etc tend to park up here.

They upgraded our room to a marina view which was nice. I thought my mattress was a bit soft. Our meal in their restaurant was quite good.

One Night Stay

Posted Mar 24, 2015
Pros: Location Location Location...and the quiet area.
Cons: More outdoor sitting would be a plus if you could make the space............
We just wanted to go to SD and enjoy ourselves for one day and night. We try to stay at different hotels around the San Diego area. This was our first time at your hotel and we really enjoyed it. Next time we go for a weekend trip your hotel will be one that we will try to stay at. We loved the location and how quiet it was in the evening. We especially loved our room facing North on the 1st Floor. We were able to get a table and sit outside relaxing facing the docks. I actually thought the Marina would be lit at night, but i guess it would be to bright. Once again it was a relaxing day and night for us in ur very lovely hotel.

Good hotel a nd location

Posted Mar 15, 2015
Really good hotel with a nice pool and sun beds to relax in and on. We had a ground floor room with all the things you expect from a best western plus. The restaurant was busy and the food was great. The bar was a great place to meet other guests. The happy hour 4 till 7 was always busy and included bar snacks as well. The staff were all very friendly and when we needed advice they were very informative. We booked the hop on,hop off trolley at reception and that picks you up at the front of the hotel. All in all a fantastic few days in a great location

Went on business. I think I got the short stray staying in the Marina building. They have other more lovely buildings. It was quite a walk from the check in desk to the marina building. Other than that particular location, the hotel was stellar. I highly recommend staying there.

Pros: Location, views
Cons: Sliding door stuck, all in all hotel could use some updating.
Location: Fathom, h & m whale watching, brigantine restaurant, point Loma, gas lamp district, etc. so much to choose from!
Vacation with my daughter and had a lovely time! Wanted a quiet place to stay and this fit the bill. Our room faced the bay and had a great view of San diego. A bit noisy once the helicopters started flying from the navy base, but very quiet and peaceful at night. So much to do in San diego. I wish we had a few more days!

Good hotel located between marina and waterfront

Posted Mar 11, 2015
Pros: Centrally-located; nice clean rooms, close to the airport and attractions; generally quiet.
Cons: Hotel restaurant a bit pricey, unless you order from the bar menu. 2-storey building could use elevator. Long walk from some rooms to main lobby.
Location: Minutes from the airport, downtown, Sea Port Village, Midway Museum, Balboa Park, Old Town, Sea World, Point Loma
This is a well-maintained hotel on Shelter Island, just minutes from the airport, downtown and other attractions. Our room included a fridge and microwave, nice furniture and wide-slated venetian panels on the windows that gave the place an air of elegance. There was a pool and hot tub at the rear of the building overlooking the marina. Staff were very nice, including the desk clerk who told us we could avoid the $10 a day parking fee by parking in the city's free beach front parking lot just across from the hotel. Note: A navy base sits across the water from the hotel and there's a lot of helicopter traffic, but the noise didn't really bother us.
