Some rooms too terrify. Beware

Posted Jan 25, 2015
Wifi and heater are borken in the room of our first night staying. That room next to the stairwell so the noise continued until 4 am. We had the most frozen and disturbing night so that we fall sleep in sea world on the following day. We required another room on the second day and everything is ok.

A real gem of a boutique-style hotel!

Posted Dec 14, 2014
Pros: Having a noon checkout was also a plus as we were able to spend the morning watching the seals play at the beach, do a little shopping, have a coffee
The room was extremely comfortable and quiet. We really enjoyed the location (2 blocks from the main shopping area) and very good restaurants within a block or two for lunch or dinner. The continental breakfast was excellent and served in a lovely breakfast room on the 2nd floor. Very thoughtful for the traveller - Seattle's Best in the breakfast lounge and Starbucks (in the room). The assortment of cereal, fruit, yogurt, boiled eggs, pastries, toast, bagels and even waffles meant that everyone in our party was satisfied.

We are pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay and were able to explore the nearby attractions within walking distance including La Jolla cove, restaurants, shops and more. What service!

Posted Nov 20, 2014
The management and staff really care to provide guests with a premier experience, uniformly smiling and asking if there was anything else they could do for us. We were unhappy with our room upon checking in, and they bent over backwards to remedy the situation. Great location, beautiful breakfast spread and room - indoor/outdoor, lots of space. Nice touches - apples on the lobby desk, full coffee/tea/hot chocolate set up in the lobby.

Great little hotel

Posted Oct 25, 2014 on Hotels.com
The rooms were very nice and everyone was eager to please. It is very close to all the La Jolla attractions. The only thing I was not very happy with was the food. From the breakfast to the room servie the food was not very good. However, there are so many great places to eat in La Jolla that you did not have to use these services.

3 day stay at Empress Hotel La Jolla

Posted Oct 14, 2014 on Hotels.com
Stayed in a 2 queen bed room just a block away from the hustle and bustle of La Jolla shores village. Great places to eat, beaches, parks and a nice up scale neighbourhood. Complimentary continental breakfast was basic but it covered our needs and was regularly topped up. Free in room wi fi was a bonus as was a big shower and an updated bathroom. Comfy beds, in room mini fridge and windows which could be opened instead of having AC on all night. Swimming pool would have been convenient for the kids at the end of the day, which Best Western just a few metres away had, however with the beach being a short walk away not really needed (who needs a pool when the water is still summer temperature in October and you can swim with the seals). Reasonably priced given the location, a shuttle to La Jolla UTC (Westfield) or La Jolla Village would be great for some cheaper clothes shopping but as we had a car it was not an issue. Vallet parking $18/night, which is not unusual in these parts and with parking at a premium we did not mind it. Overall pleasant stay if you want to be near the beach and not pay a fortune.

Not what I had envisioned

Posted Oct 7, 2014 on Hotels.com
Not that close to the beach. Put in an awkward corner room with a view of a business building roof. $18 parking per day. Bed mattress sagged in the middle so I slept on an edge. Expensive for what you get.
