Newly Renovated Rooms

Very nice location a few blocks from the beach. The renovated rooms are a welcome update from the old ones. A good alternative to the chain hotels nearby. Very personal and homey. My only problem is that the Italian restaurant smell lingers in the hallways from early afternoon until the next morning. They need to fix that!

Great little hotel

Pros: great staff, good location and I really liked the set up in the breakfast room
Cons: The newly painted door to our room was difficult to close.
Location: Lots of restaurants and stores in the area and quite close to the water.
Booked this hotel last minute for an overnight stay and we were very pleasantly surprised. Upgraded to a newly renovated room which was quite lovely. Staff were great and amenities were terrific for the price. Breakfast room is very nice with an indoor room, an outdoor covered area and a smaller area to sit in the sun. We would return for sure if the opportunity were to present itself.

Some rooms too terrify. Beware

Wifi and heater are borken in the room of our first night staying. That room next to the stairwell so the noise continued until 4 am. We had the most frozen and disturbing night so that we fall sleep in sea world on the following day. We required another room on the second day and everything is ok.

A real gem of a boutique-style hotel!

Pros: Having a noon checkout was also a plus as we were able to spend the morning watching the seals play at the beach, do a little shopping, have a coffee
The room was extremely comfortable and quiet. We really enjoyed the location (2 blocks from the main shopping area) and very good restaurants within a block or two for lunch or dinner. The continental breakfast was excellent and served in a lovely breakfast room on the 2nd floor. Very thoughtful for the traveller - Seattle's Best in the breakfast lounge and Starbucks (in the room). The assortment of cereal, fruit, yogurt, boiled eggs, pastries, toast, bagels and even waffles meant that everyone in our party was satisfied.

What service!

The management and staff really care to provide guests with a premier experience, uniformly smiling and asking if there was anything else they could do for us. We were unhappy with our room upon checking in, and they bent over backwards to remedy the situation. Great location, beautiful breakfast spread and room - indoor/outdoor, lots of space. Nice touches - apples on the lobby desk, full coffee/tea/hot chocolate set up in the lobby.

Great hotel

The empress was not my original hotel that i was planning on staying at but it beat the price of my original hotel. When me and my boyfriend got there we noticed that parking was hard to find but the empress offers 24 hour service for their parking for 18$ and whenever we needed our car the vallet guy would bring it to us right away which was very nice. As far as the room we got a delux which was very clean and the bed was extreamly comdortable. Bathroom was perfect size and we got free wifi and breakfast I recomend this hotel if you need a place to sleep for a couple nights and also if your gonna be driving from your hotel to others areas

Little gem in La Jolla

This is a wonderful smaller hotel that makes you feel you are travelling back to the sixties. Superb restaurant that exudes a feeling that they will do whatever it takes to make you happy. Can't wait for an excuse to go back.
