The Colonial is charming and in the heart of La Jolla. The in house restaurant is amazing!

Pros: Again, classy, warm, inviting, the location, the light
Cons: Don't change anything!
Location: Just in the middle of La Jolla, next to bars, restaurants, shopping and the beach, ideal location.
It is not our first stay, and we just love this place! Everything about it: the location, the staff, the rooms, the ambiance. The hotel is class albeit very warm and inviting. Plus we were upgraded which made our experience even better.

Beautiful property, great location and staff. Kids had a blast walking to the beach and swimming at the pool. Highly recommend it!

Prime La Jolla location

As a family of four, we spent two nights at the Grande Colonial Hotel. The hotel was beautiful and in an ideal location to explore La Jolla with easy access to San Diego. The bathroom was small and the personality of the hotel was a little more formal than we are used to, but both were due to the historical nature of the building. I asked the bellhop about hotel being haunted, hoping that he would say something to intrigue our kids (ages 12 and 13) but he ended any fun we may have had by quickly and totally dispelling the rumors. We had a delicious breakfast in the hotel restaurant before we left and would recommend.

So sorry, however, to hear that our bell staff couldn't read through your desire to hear more about our ghost stories. We are indeed a haunted hotel and have a collection of haunted happenings dating back decades. I wish he would have seen that you and your kids wanted to hear about them rather than take the opposite approach (which some guests actually prefer). Wonderful service. Everyone was very personable, helpful and knowledgable. Spacious rooms. Excellent food. Perfect location. This hotel has fine qualities that are rare in this day and age.
