A good central location.

Pros: Close to restaurants and the sea.
Cons: Our one evening meal in the attached restaurant came out cool and was returned only to be delivered a little warmer.
A nice welcome and comfortable room. Reception staff were pleasant, bar staff pleasant. Overall a pleasant 3 day stay.

LaJolla historic gem by the sea.

Posted Jun 28, 2014
Pros: Everything from the entrance to the cordial greetings from the staff, the beautiful staircase and the stunning furnishings.
Cons: The carpet in the entry of 405 is in need of a good shampooing or replace with tile. The Keurig coffeemaker has its quirks for heating water for tea.
Location: The location is perfect. One short block to the beach. Shops and restaurants steps away. Bicycle, surfboards & water gear can be rented.
It's difficult to describe this wonderful hotel. It's a step back in time but with all the comforts of today. My room #405 has an ocean view which is seen through large unobstructed windows. The cool breezes were just what I was needing after arriving from beautiful Arizona with temperatures at 108. The Grande Colonial is a place of history and it's decor throughout is classic turn of the century. I always look forward to stepping into the experience.

Perfect Honeymoon in the Garden Suite!

Posted Jun 28, 2014
Location: Iberico (great Spanish restaurant ... best seafood pallea since I've been to Spain); less than 2 blocks from the shore; mere feet from many shops!
We stayed in the Garden Suite for our Honeymoon and had a WONDERFUL experience! The room was a nice size for us. It even had a small kitchenette. The kitchenette included only a two burner stove and a microwave, but we were still able to cook dinner for two with a variety of meats (i.e. chicken, beef) and vegetables (i.e. asparagus, peppers, mushrooms) for most of our stay. The hotel is in walking distance of EVERYTHING you could want--- shops, beach, great restaurants (go to the Iberico!!!), little green park, and much more! The staff were great!!! Valet everyday was great. Although a bit on the expensive side, but the valet guys were always nice and helpful with directions. Bonus --- all snacks (bags of chips, trail mix, popcorn) and drinks (water, Coke) were complimentary! And we asked the staff to keep those stocked each day and they did! I really recommend this hotel for any newlywed or couple! And we are still living the grad school life, so with the kitchenette and understanding that things may be expensive in La Jolla, this was a once of life time worth it experience!!! :)

Let me first congratulate you on your recent wedding. We are so happy that you chose to celebrate such a special occasion as your honeymoon with us at the Grande Colonial. I'm delighted to hear how much you liked your Garden Suite. The fact that it comes equipped with a kitchen and complimentary refreshments (that are indeed replenished daily) makes it ideal for those staying more than a couple of nights. Perhaps you'll be back next year for your one-year anniversary. We'd love to have you. Terrence Underwood, General Manager

Beautiful hotel, easy walking to village. Great

Posted Jun 19, 2014
Pros: Location, 'colonialism style', cleanliness.
Cons: Free carking would be good
We stayed here for 3 nights and the hotel is beautiful. Wifi works, rooms cleaned daily, very clean and very 'colonial'. I would defiantly stay there again. If I had to make a negative comment, car parking (valet) at $25 per night is too expensive considering the price paid for the room.

A well-kept historic hotel near shops and shore

Posted Jun 12, 2014
Pros: Great location, well-kept historic building, attentive staff, near shops and shore walk
Cons: no suggestions
Location: In the center of La Jolla, walk to shore, restaurants, shopping, art galleries, Museum of Contemporary Art, and more.
We enjoyed our stay at the Colonial. An historic building, well-maintained and elegant, but relaxing without being stuffy. We paid a little extra for an ocean view room, which was worth it. A nice touch was that the hotel opened the doors at the end of the hallway in the morning, so when we left the room there was a gentle salty breeze wafting through the hallway. Rooms were not large but very comfortable, with good ventilation.

Thanks David for your 5 stars and such positive feedback. One of the comments that we receive most from guests is about the windows in the rooms and hallways that open up to allow the fresh ocean breezes to come through. So happy to hear how much you enjoyed that too. We look forward to having you back from Colorado soon. Sincerely, Terrence Underwood, General Manager
