"Great Location"
The Horton Grand was a wonderful hotel with lots of history. They are going through a renovation right now, so we were able to get a good deal! The rooms, which were already redone, were comfortable and nicely decorated. The Palace Bar was also a nice place to end the evening. Besides the hotel, we were right in the middle of the Gaslamp, and had tons of restaurants and clubs near by. Great Stay!

"Great Location!"
Great location and wonderful hotel. For the most part everything was great. We just had minor issues; things like the hot and cold water being switched, requesting one king bed and getting two queens, air conditioner either being on or off leaving the room too hot or too cold. The front desk person checked us in and said we were on the first floor. I asked to be a little higher up so they very kindly switched our room. When we got to our building we quickly learned that the first floor is parking and the "first floor" of rooms is actually the second floor. Parking is not included, so that was another $14 a night. The spaces are few and small so we squeezed into one, just thankful there was one there so we wouldn't have to park at the nearby restaurant. The hotel is older and there was some wear to show. And the windows are thin and you can hear anyone walking by. The only downside to our stay was our noisy neighbors who would come back from the bars around 1:30 AM and gather at the little table and chairs that were right outside our door. After a while we called the front desk and they sent someone right out to ask them to move elsewhere.

"Awesome location!"
Great great location -- in walking distance to lots of good stuff downtown San Diego. A trolley stop literally just behind the hotel -- new splash park for kids just across the street. View of Star of India -- and the beautiful Embarcadero. We had no issue with "train noise" in our room despite being light sleepers. Staff was friendly and helpful. We loved the breakfast buffet and free airport shuttle. Will definitely plan to spend a couple of nights here on our next SD visit!

"Great location, nicely updated"
We've stayed at this hotel a number of times before. The location is perfect, adjacent to Balboa Park and either a short walk up to Hillcrest or a slightly longer walk downtown. The downside to this property had always been the very dated rooms and interior amenities. So we were pleasantly surprised to see that the rooms have been recently upgraded, with new bedding, furniture, kitchens, bathrooms & climate control. The best place to stay in San Diego if you want to do stuff in the Hillcrest/Balboa Park area.

"100 Year Old Hotel."
I loved this old hotel. Staff is very friendly and the room that I had was awesome. I had a suite that was very comfortable. I was told the noise level might be high due to being located in the Gaslamp District. However I was on the 5th floor and I didn't hear a thing. I would stay again. Thank you.

"Great location and the hotel staff was outstanding"
We stayed at this hotel for 14 days straight and every day was pleasant. The hotel staff always offered us complimentary bottles of water and they would also ask us how our stay was going and if there was anything else that they could do for us. We received great tips from all of the concierges on the best way to get around town and where to go. The US Grant is where we will stay when we come back to San Diego.
