Updated hotel in downtown

Posted Jul 19, 2015
Nice experience especially with the hotel staff. Easy check in and quick response to a broken outlet for the hair drier. Loved the free cookies each night. The one drawback was the parking garage. It was very tight especially around the turns to the next floor.

Downtown convenience

Posted Jul 16, 2015
Pros: comfortable beds, good breakfast and cookies always available when you arrive back to the hotel.
Cons: Rooms could use an update!
Location: Close to all major downtown tourist spots, 5 min drive or use the free shuttle.
We arrived early and requested an early book in as I was not feeling well. The front desk clerk was very accommodating and set us up in a very nice room. Convenient location, not too far from all the popular spots downtown. Nice bonus with the free shuttle to certain locations. We took the shuttle to the San Diego Zoo and back to the hotel. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again in the future, very reasonable room rates.

Vacation

Posted Jul 15, 2015
Helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast on the lower level had cereal, yogurt, pancakes, juice, coffee, tea, cinnamon rolls, bagels, bread, English muffins, etc. I would have loved some cheese, other than cream cheese that was meant for the bagels, but since breakfast is included in the room price it would probably raise too much the price. Happy that it is right across the Symphony and walking distance to the Gaslamp restaurants.

Close to party scene but FAR from my expectations.

Posted Jul 14, 2015
Pros: Close to local bars, clubs, and restaurants.
Cons: Remove dingy hallway rugs, upgrade toilets. How about signs to where the elevator is located in the parking garage? AND free parking for hotel guests.
Location: Northeast from Gaslamp District. Comedy clubs, bars, and restaurants.
Hotel is located northeast of Gaslamp District. Great that it's so close to get where everything's happening. The cab fare from the hotel to The American Comedy Club (off of 6th St and F St) was $5.50 and it left us close to a lot of local bars and restaurants. Horrible parking garage. Don't park in their garage if you have a large truck. The corners are EXTREMELY tight and they charge you $16 to park there on top of the room fees. It was also hard to find an elevator from the parking garage to the hotel. We couldn't find it when we first got there, so we had to haul our luggage up the hill and around the corner to the front entrance of the hotel. Rooms are somewhat dingy. We booked a room with two queen beds. The room faced 7th St so we didn't get a balcony... What's up with the industrial toilet in the room? Felt like I using a public toilet in a mall.

GREAT EXPERIENCE

Posted Jul 8, 2015
Pros: The fact that it is a Holiday Inn Express. It was close to where we needed to be. Also, close to the Gaslamp, and other things San Diego has to offer
Location: Great location across from the historic El Cortez hotel, Near all the downtown nightlife, SeaWorld, Zoo, Balboa Park, Seaport Village, USS Midway
We were in downtown San Diego for business, so we only stayed one night. Check in was very easy. The front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean. Breakfast was good, better variety than some other hotels. We would definitely stay there again if we have business downtown again. The only thing that was not so great was the parking. The parking garage is very low and very tight. Don't bring your 4x4, or long suv.

Extraordinary staff, great location, kid-friendly

Posted Jul 3, 2015
Pros: Staff, location, pool, breakfasts, Happy Hour
Cons: Lighting in the room - especially the reading lights at bedside. Air conditioner is noisy, but it works well
Great location, with hotel shuttle to and from airport, train, SD Zoo; walking distance to wide variety of restaurants, shopping, movie theatre, major sites. Staff was uniformly gracious and helpful, from housekeeping to desk to Happy Hour workers. Breakfast included hot and cold dishes, suitable for most diets and tastes. Pool is clean, with warm towels provided. Suite was roomy and comfortable - with a queen-sized bed, pull-out bed and small couch roomy enough for a child. Oh... and that warm cookie at day's end!

Nice but older

Beds super comfortable. Room is big and you get your own balcony. The only issue is parking if you have a full size truck not a good place! You will have to park across the street at the sister hotel, and hope if you leave that you will have somewhere to park when you return!
