Beautiful view and locale!

Posted Jan 25, 2015
Pros: The location, history.
Cons: They should offer the best room they have available at the rate paid, not try and slough off a tough to fill room.
Location: Right on a beautiful beach, restaurants close by.
Upon check-in we were told we had been "upgraded" to a Victorian suite. Went and looked at a room, it was part of the original building, which is charming, but was overlooking the lobby area and was very noisy and the view was of the roof on the entrance to the hotel. We asked if they could do a little better and they moved us to a huge suite in a newer 7 story building, top floor, beautiful view! Didn't look to me like they ever got anyone into the Victorian suite - curtains were in the same position during our stay.

This hotel is nice but way too expensive.

Posted Jan 24, 2015
We stayed 3 nights after 4 nights at the new Marriot hotel on Imperial Beach just 10 miles south of the Hotel Del Coronado. The Del is a lovely old hotel but is not a big enough bang for the bucks it costs. The room was very hot during the day. We wished we had stayed on at Imperial Beach.

Resting on past glory

Posted Dec 31, 2014
We spent $700 a night on a room that had 3 out of the 4 lamps with burned out lights, 2 sink holes in the mattress, clock radio that didn't work, sink and shower drains that didn't drain. The buffets were poorly managed with empty serving dishes a norm. We will never waste our money on this hotel again

25th Anniversary

Posted Dec 30, 2014
Pros: Comfortable beds, adequate linens, plentiful shampoo, lotions etc. the Victorian ambience, beautiful landscaping holiday decorations, family friendly
Cons: lack of maintenance for broken light in bathroom, inadequate shower head, dime store hair dryer, thin towels
Location: beach and the upscale shops and neighborhoods of Coronado
Its a very large and very busy resort especially over a holiday season, we stayed one night to celebrate a 25 anniversary with my spouse. The hotel has both the older section from the Victorian era which is quaint and charming, and a newer section for those that need more modern conditions. There are restaurants, shops on site and within walking distance to the upscale shops and neighborhoods of Coronado. Its is on the beach with chairs etc. and towels for additional fees. The valet, bell men and waiters were very friendly in a high stress time. The Sunday breakfast buffet was superb if a bit pricey but you have outdoor seating and views of the ocean if you desire. But some little details are overlooked that bring the experience down a notch when you consider we paid $600 for one night with resort fees and parking, as compared with other hotels of the same class. Such as, the noisy carts pushed across the courtyard by employees at 5:00AM can disturb sleep. There are no tea options with your in room coffee service. Would we stay again in the future ? maybe or maybe not.

Annniversary Trip to Hotel Del

Posted Dec 3, 2014
This monumentally historic Hotel remains beautiful & romantic. Unfortunately, the guest experience was not as positive as I would have hoped. We checked in on a 25th Anniversary trip to an empty hotel. We were offered a $125 upgrade to an ocean view & a $25 upgrade to a king size bed. No one seemed particularly interested in our anniversary. We walked a long way to our room which was clean but awkward - tiny bathroom, glass shelf that prevented you from leaning into the mirror. The shops below the hotel were dated and sold stuff you wouldn't want to buy. The pool remains beautiful and was a great experience. I suspect this is an expensive property to manage & revenue and margin capture may have taken priority over guest exeperience.

Wonderful and impresive hotel. Great family oriented facilities. Lots of things to do in and out of the hotel. Incredible views! Lobby: beautiful, but always smelled like dog urine In room food service: overprized (when you add up ALL the service charges), and not of great quality as you might expect given the prize. About the room: Bathroom and vanity areas were dirty when arrived (and this was @ 8pm, so rush time had already passed). And when I say dirty I mean: dust in furniture, spilled liquid on vanity, and the worst for me: specific type of hair in tub. Vanity had rusty and awfull (dirty, outdated, kind of not finished) drawers that couldnt be used.
