Great location

Posted Sep 30, 2014
Pros: Location & pool/lounge.
Cons: Needs some attention to bring up to usual Kimpton standard.
Location: Baseball, restaurants, bars, shopping, waterfront.
As usual this Kimpton hotel is in a great location. The 4th floor pool/lounge is a really nice place to hangout, have a drink, light meal, kick back and relax. I've stayed at many Kimpton hotels, overall I would rate this one lowest for the restaurant, cleanliness and customer service. The staff are helpful and friendly but every function seemed like they were understaffed - slow, unorganized service in restaurant, room cleaning below usual standard, housekeeping repeatedly knocking on door to ask us if our room had been cleaned, hallway carpets needing vacuuming for days. I would still recommend this hotel, but not to everyone.

Brocken shower, parking is $49 extra

Posted Sep 27, 2014
This Hotel Solamar in San Diego does not have free guest parking. They do offer Valet Service for $49 per night, which is extra to the cost of the room and which is conveniently not diclosed in the begining. However, what broke the camel's back was the brocken slightly rusted showerhead (room 519). Really??? The booking website described the room as having a city/poolside view, but really it was a view of the building next door and if you look to the far left you can see the pool. Pool are was very nice and overall room was comfortable. Hotel staff was extreamly helpful. They went out of their way to help.

Pros: Everything.
It is a good hotel, well located, in the heart of Downtown San Diego, on Gaslamp, one block of the nice restaurantes.

Not worth the price

Posted Sep 11, 2014
Pros: Close to Padres baseball park.
Cons: Price too high. Overnight parking is outrageous.
Location: Gas light district, baseball park, restaurants.
We decided to splurge on a hotel that was more expensive than we normally stay in because it was the last part of our trip. We chose this hotel mainly for its proximity to the baseball field. Firstly, the overnight parking was $42. so we self-parked in a garage 2 blocks from the hotel for $17. The room was just as large as the previous one, Travel Lodge, that we had booked in northern Calif. The beds were comfortable, but the bathroom had no lock! It was a normal room, but with a very pricey mini-bar which we did not use. They did have a one hour wine/beer gathering from 5 to 6 pm, but no food to accompany. We got free wi-fi because we joined their points program, but we did not receive their $10 raid-the-bar credit because we booked through Expedia instead of directly through the hotel. We were unsatisfied with the overall luxury feel of the hotel, expecting much more for the price.

Very friendly hotel

Nice rooms but charging for even water in your room is ridiculous the food was second rate at best and every one should be informed that guest parking is $42a night added to your room rate for those reasons I can't justify their room rates.

Lovely hotel. Great service. Very close to the bay, yummy restaurants, stadium, shopping, museums. We found a fun winery about an hour away in Ramona, that made the trip even more fun. Great stay!

Nice hotel in convenient location

Posted Aug 30, 2014
Really liked the style and decor of the room and it's close proximity to the attractions downtown and the airport. The bed was pretty comfortable. The sink was hard to use without splashing water everywhere. Soft, plush towels. The valet staff was great. Had to catch an early flight and attendant was prompt and polite.

Good location, but hotel needs some updates.

Our A/C stopped working 2 nights before we left! It also needs a dresser for clothes. The restaurant was lovely....lots of organic food Arne nicelee prepared. Gaslight and Convention Center are just minutes from the hotel. Also has a beautiful 4 the floor rooftop pool and bar!
