“Excellent customer service!”
This hotel was so cute and so much charm! The staff were so cheerful and went above and beyond to make our stay fun and enjoyable.
“Not for a relaxing stay”
Tried taking an afternoon nap, but kids upstairs were running around... ceiling and walls are just so thin. Tried sleeping in Sunday morning, but the same kids were up at 6:30am. This hotel is not meant for a nice, relaxing stay :-(
“classic hotel”
classic hotel ,clean,and convienent.
“Quirky, pleasant hotel”
It's not a Holiday Inn. It's an old apartment building nicely maintained right across the street from Balboa Park. Lobby is artsy and nice. There is a nice little tasteful garden next to an ugly parking lot. As for the room: pluses include its size, inclusion of robes and huge towels and comfortable beds. Downside: couldn't get the heat to work (but it's Southern California), one of the lamps was broken, furniture was adequate but a bit tired, and I never got the overhead light and fan to work. Ther was a little spider in the bathroom -- no threat, but not something I've found at a Hilton. I had a fine experience overall.
“Great Hotel, loads of character”
Excellent place to stay, huge rooms, great service, great location.
“More Pros than Cons”
Pros: Really nice location. Hillcrest with all of it's shopping and food is a 10 min walk away. The park is across the street and great in the morning. South of the hotel are more great restaurants to visit. The roof offers amazing views of everything. The rooms here are also very large. I think at one point they were one bedroom apartments. The valet parking was reasonable. Anyone who's had to pay the $30 or more in downtown would agree. Customer service is great and the room was clean. Cons: Being a very old hotel it lacks many modern amenities, especially in the restroom. Also no pool, fitness room, and the elevator is very slow. It's also very easy to imagine the Inn a haunted house due to it's age and decor. Summary. If I need a nice place to stay but didn't want to pay Downtown prices, this would be one of the hotels I'd stay in. Especially if I was traveling with a few people, due the very large rooms.
“will definatly come back”
very much enjoyed our stay
“Great location, nice historical feel”
If you want ultra-modern and slick, don't go to this hotel. It's a 1926 building with wide hallways, lots of wood and old-fashioned, high-ceilinged suites. I enjoyed the closet full of built-ins (although not the new mirrored doors) and the feel of another time, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Bathrobe, room safe and free Wi-Fi were good, and roof-level dining room was wonderful. However, the planned renovations probably will help, although I sincerely hope kitchens and bathrooms are updated in a vintage, period-appropriate way. Euro-modern or streamlined Deco would be a disaster in this place. Traffic noise at the west end was a problem, mostly due to open windows. Location across from Balboa Park and in Hillcrest neighborhood is perfect. Would definitely stay here again.
“Charming hotel on Historic Register”
Inn at the Park was a unique experience. Our charming room was spacious and very clean with a lovely city view. The breakfast on the roof was beautifully presented and the view wonderful. Beware that there is valet parking for a fee but the neighborhood (across from Balboa Park) it felt safe to leave our car on the street at night. the down side was not having air conditioning--the fans worked well but we had to leave them on all night and thus leave the curtains open (lovely view but lots of light and street noise). We would definitely consider staying at this quaint, suite oriented hotel again.
“Very friendly personnel”
We enjoyed our stay a lot. Staff is amazing. Location is great. However, ask for a room on the higher level due to the street noise.
