Very peaceful setting!!

Posted Apr 15, 2015
Cons: WiFi was not the strongest but then again we where on vacation so it was nice not having the distraction of social media.
Great place to stay. You can go and be a part of all the activities San Diego has to offer and then retreat to the peaceful setting of Kona Kai to relax either by sitting on their private beach, at their pool/hot tub area or on your balcony watching all the amazing boats travel in and out of the bay. Bring comfy shoe as you will do a lot of walking strolling by the water. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was some of the best we had while we where there and the rooms where very clean. If we ever make it back to San Diego I would definitely go back and stay at Kona Kai.

You go there for the environment.

Hard to beat the environment, typical San Diego tropicalismo, gorgeous views. The room was cozy and clean, I liked the sort of bold decor of the rooms. The bed was comfortable. The overall decor and appearance is very pleasing. The breakfast of "pastry basket" was forgettable. 4 small danishes in the process of approaching the end of freshness. We did not have any other types of food. The rooms have no night lights so if the lights are out it is pitch dark and you can't even find a light switch - a bit inconvenient. Overall the few negatives are dwarfed by the positives.

Amazing Stay!

Posted Jan 21, 2015 on Hotels.com
Kona Kai is becoming my families favorite place to stay in San Diego. The rooms are nice and the views are amazing. Everything was perfect from the moment we arrived. We would highly recommend this hotel. And if going to the Spa ask for a Pure Fiji treatment.

A taste of Paradise

Posted Jan 20, 2015
The hotel is a hidden gem! Loved the view and the private beach. My.only issue was a constant pounding that started at 7:30am daily and was pretty consistent ALL day long; very irritating!!!! I also DO NOT like the fact that we would have to walk up to the front desk in order to get any pool towels!!!!!

It's a nice get away place. They're restaurant and food is amazing This was my second time choosing this place. I don't look for hotels in sandiego anymore This is the best I've ever been. It's located in a nice island that have access to bay and marina. Safe place for kids and romantic play for couples

Great Property

The hotel has a great staff and the public areas of the hotel are in great condition. However, it appears as if the remodeling budget was spent on the public areas and not on the rooms. The carpet in our room was in need of being replaced and the bathroom was in need of an update. I would choose to stay at this hotel again, but I would request an updated room in the future.

Not sure what makes this place a resort.

Pros: Friendly staff. Bartenders are great.
Cons: I don't know who is in charge of putting people in the right rooms, but this was messed up for several of the guests while we were there.
Location: Location is great if you like to be away from downtown and busier parts of town.
Reserved a king-size bay view room for 3 nights. Showed up and they didn't have it the first night. Said they would move us to one the other two nights. Moved 2nd night to bay view room but didn't end up having king-size bed. Since we had already paid through expedia, they couldn't refund. They did comp us parking and gave us vouchers for drinks and breakfast though which was nice. All of the staff was extremely friendly, but not having the right rooms for people seemed to be a common problem as we kept overhearing other people's problems with rooms as well. The hotel itself is perfectly fine, but nothing unique as far as the rooms go...just like most other normal hotels. Lobby and Restaurant areas are the only places with great ambience.
