Convienient, but not a resort.Posted Aug 11, 2014
Good location, not really a resort though. No services (valet, bellhop,etc.). Their "beach" is actually just sand with no water access. Staff was generally unpleasant, but the waitstaff in the restaurant were professional and the jazz band was great.

Hideaway inside the city of San DiegoPosted Aug 8, 2014
Pros: hospitality of staff and nice facility
Cons: Self parking should be included in the room rate
The location is 15 min to down town, the university and Pacific Beach, thus nice and quite with pleasant view on the marina side rooms.

Too little for soooooo much.Posted Jul 28, 2014
Pros: The view and good staff.
Cons: For the price, everything.
Location: Great access to everything. Fabulous walking and viewing. Shelter island is one of San Diego's gems.
I found the room cramped, especially the bathroom. Amenities were skimpy for the price. I expected robes, larger and softer towels, better coffee in room, more upscale toilet and bath products. Just generally, too much like a Holiday Inn for about three hundred bucks more. The best thing about it was an accommodating staff and, of course, the location and view. I would not go back. I've had much more at the Omni and others for less.

Pros: Comfy beds, great front desk help, scenic location.
Location: Marina, biking, row boating, paddle boards, sailing nearby.
Enjoyed resting in pool area, roasting marshmallows, and daily music from the restaurant.

Absolutely one of the best everPosted Jul 15, 2014
It was a very special night. Had proposed to my girlfriend earlier. Then the room, staff, grounds, view were amazing. Everyone at the Kona Kai made it even more memorable.

Not ready for occupation.Posted Jul 6, 2014
Pros: Very little.
Front desk, with the exception of Maria, pleasant enough but totally inept. We were never told that there was a parking lot immediately adjacent to our distant room where we could have unloaded our bags, even though I explained I had recently had knee replacement surgery. No bellhop visible. So we took several long trips to the end of the property, carrying belongings.. 2 hours after getting our room, entered it again to find a staff member in it, who inquired if we were checking out. There was no explanation why he was there. Shortly after, 4 men tried to get into our room saying it had been assigned to them. After dinner, returned to room only to find room keys no longer worked. (neither did the keys of the couple across the hall who were returning at the same time). When we made the long trek to the desk, the person there said they had no record of us being in the room, and then accused us of mistreating the keys. Hey - whatever happened to apologies for a guest's inconvenience. Finally, though we had earliest dinner reservation, had to wait over an hour for our food to be served. Very poor restaurant menu, quite limited, and definitely unsuitable for families. Another note: lobby bathrooms filthy, and without toilet paper, even though the desk was informed about the situation, it never improved. Would strongly recommend another choice of hotel.

Nice hotelPosted Jul 2, 2014
Pros: The staff very friendly, comfortable beds, clean, free happy hour.
Cons: Continental breakfast
Location: Not to far from beaches everything is pretty close.
This was a nice hotel, didn't realize it was under construction when I booked it. But I'm sure it will be amazing once it's completed. The managers happy hour was nice.

Honeymoon StayPosted Jun 29, 2014
Pros: How quiet it was. It was truly a mini vacation.
Cons: A lot of the resort was closed but they are under construction so its understandable.
Location: We went to Umi Sushi which was great and also Wave House which was recommended to us by resort staff.
I enjoyed my stay so much that I feel I left my heart at Kona Kai. They upgraded our room it was perfect, it was quiet. When I go back to San Diego, I feel this is where I want to be again.
