Casa del Zorro was great!!! Came back for the second time!!! We enjoyed every second at the resort. Kristie at reception is very accomodating and super nice. I only wish they had more food choices for longer stays.

Awesome getaway!!

Posted Sep 9, 2014
Pros: Everything !! The rooms are beautiful and have little personal details.
Cons: I was in wisteria, and I wish I had a fridge instead of a cooler?
Location: I loved barrego outfitters, I loved going to the market before my hikes everyday. The visitors area was great for a little flat 1.4 mile walk.
I loved how friendly everyone was. I loved how quite it was, I will be back with my family next time. A great escape when life gets to be too much. The lagoon, the waterfalls, the hiking near by, the stars at night, the family friendly karaoke night by the pool. Just wonderful!!!

Very nice hotel in the middle of nowhere!

Posted Sep 2, 2014
Pros: Beautiful high end finishes & touches. The food at the restaurant. Many pools - one right next to our room.
Cons: Front desk's response to the roaches!
Location: NOTHING!
First of all, this hotel is NOT close to the city of Julian! 35 miles on a very windy road! The hotel is BEAUTIFUL & appointed with very HIGH END finishes. Very spacious, comfy bed, beautiful large bathroom! There is nothing to do in Borrego Springs - not even a movie theater. It is very, very hot... so basically, if you want to lounge & be in the pool ALL day then this is the hotel for you. No night life besides star gazing. The food at the restaurant was very good. Blue Plate Special of Fried Chicken was 12.95 and super tasty! So was the Apple Pie A La Mode. The only reason I am not giving this hotel a perfect score is because we found 3 roaches in our room. BIG ones! The room was very, very clean so I think it's just that they are trying to get out of the heat. When I told the front desk - nothing was done. They said that they were Water Bugs - they are NOT - they are ROACHES! Anyway, it wasn't horrible - my husband killed them & that was that!

Dear AndiV, Our team is thrilled to hear of your enjoyable 1st-time experience with us and the tasty dining selections! You are correct, Borrego Springs has never been confused with a bustling metropolis, however the majority of our guests come for getaways from the hustle-bustle of big-city life. Our pristine location in the middle of Anza-Borrego State Park enables our guests to relax in supreme tranquility and connect with an authentic community and nature. I do apologize that you encountered insects in your room. They are, in fact, water bugs, and we do regularly treat the resort for insects. We do look forward to your return visit! Nice Hotel in the Middle of Nowhere

Posted Sep 2, 2014
Pros: The rooms are gorgeous. They have very comfortable bedding, and we liked having a pool right outside because of the heat.
Cons: The casitases really need to be checked and sprayed for bugs OFTEN.
Location: The location is the middle of nowhere. I think if you Google facts about Borrego Springs, you'll learn that it's about 50 mi to the nearest stoplight
La Casa del Zorro is a beautiful place in the middle of nowhere. Their restaurant had good food, and we had a pool right outside our balcony. The only problem we experienced, which kept me from giving an excellent all the way, was the bugs. We were upgraded to a casitas from the regular room we had reserved, which was awesome, except for the large black bug we found upon entering, and the nasty looking vinegar spider (we think) that we also found. They gave us a different casita, which was better, but we still had spiders. They put us in the regular room that we had originally booked, and that was much better. Our girls were freaked out by the bugs, but they checked the third room very thoroughly before giving the thumbs up. Now I understand that we're in the desert and there's going to be bugs, but there shouldn't be those gigantic bugs in a room, I'm sorry. I do commend the staff for trying their best and giving us room after room. So for that, thank you. My advice if you stay here is just check your room from top to bottom!

Dear Truly, Our team is very glad to know of your great experience with us and were able to enjoy our fabulous dining options and sparkling pools! I do apologize that you encountered small insects in your room. As we discussed during your visit, we regularly treat our property for pests, and housekeeping does a thorough inspection for all arrivals. Our staff is more than happy to remove an insect should one be found, however this is not a regular occurrence. We thank you for choosing to stay with La Casa del Zorro, and we look forward to your return! Tim Williams Front Office Manager La Casa del Zorro

Great hotel terrible location

Posted Sep 1, 2014
Staff and hotel were great. However do not expect to do anything in or around town . During the summer months it's to hot to be outside. The town has VERY little to do or shops to look around at. I highly recommend you look for a different hotel. Don't let the San Diego county location fool you!

Dear Jeff, Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us, however we strongly disagree with your recommendation to find another hotel. Our beautiful location in eastern San Diego County in Anza-Borrego State Park allows our guests to relax and unwind from the cares of city life and connect with the desert and themselves in peaceful tranquility. Our 42 acre resort offers 5 public pools and a wealth of activity facilities, plus we are only 10-15 minutes from some of the best hiking in the country. Borrego Springs is a quaint desert community offering authentic, friendly locals and a truly unique experience. We hope to see you return! Tim Williams Front Office Manager La Casa del Zorro

This was a return visit to La Casa del Zorro.. my first in 25 years. I was delighted that the resort and staff are as lovely now as they were then. The staff is friendly, helpful and accommodating. Our room.... deluxe queen.. was well appointed, large, with comfortable furniture, beds, and linens. The Blue Plate special, served in the Fox Den was excellent, and I would highly recommend La Casa to anyone who would enjoy a comfortably elegant weekend.

Peaceful hotel with a touch of class

Posted Aug 17, 2014
Pros: Quiet, calm and service with a bit of quality and personal attention.
Cons: Offer breakfast as part of a package. Potentially waive the resort tax for short term guests or those who don't use the facilities
Location: Location is a little remote with limited obvious attractions nearby. We used it as a stopover before visiting San Diego.
Stayed only one night as part of a road trip and disappointed that we were not able to stay longer. Room was high quality with a character fireplace and lots of space.

Beautiful resort

Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: Beautiful rooms and grounds. They seemed to put kids all around one pool and adults only by another pool - very nice to not have to hear kids crying!
Cons: The service at the Fox Den restaurant was pretty atrocious. They need new mgt and training for all staff. The food there was pretty good, though.
Location: Borrego Springs is VERY small with not too many amenities. Carlees Restaurant in town (diner) was good. Very friendly staff with great service.

Hotel is very far from san Diego international air

Posted Aug 4, 2014
The hotel is very far from San Diego international airport and the hotel did not specify that the reported hotel shuttle onlyservices the local private air strip. Also there isn't a local hospital in case of an emergency. There is only a clinic that closes at 5pm. Overall the actual hotel resort was beautiful and romantic.

Dear Valued Guest, Wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us! Your comments are correct that we are not near San Diego International Airport, however do do not advertise ourselves as being in close proximity to it. Yes, we do offer a hotel shuttle that services the private Borrego Springs Airport, and many of our guests from San Diego & Los Angeles with private planes utilize the shuttle service. We do encourage our guests to research our location before booking so they can be sure our location will fit with their itinerary. Thank you for staying with La Casa del Zorro, and we hope for your return! Tim Williams Front Office Manager La Casa del Zorro
