On la Jolla beach

Posted Jan 7, 2015
Pros: location
Cons: heating system
Location: beach
we were not lucky and had bad weather ... the room was spacious, maybe a little old, but well maintained and clean. We had to turn on the heat and it is unfortunately quite noisy, but I guess in spring/summer month, it's not an issue.

Location was great, service was not.

Posted Jan 3, 2015
Pros: The location was excellent, the rooms were clean, the beach and park were perfect. Close to all of the San Diego attractions yet far enough away.
Cons: Customer service from the front desk staff, the restaurant employees, and the manager.
Location: The location is perfect. Steps from the beach and a very nice park. Shops and restaurants nearby. La Jolla is a perfect location.
Location, location, location. We booked this hotel based on the fact it was located on the beach and that did not disappoint. We were steps from the beach and steps from a nice park with plenty of green space. There are stores and nice restaurants within walking distance making the location even more appealing. La Jolla is a beautiful area outside the hustle of San Diego yet close enough to enjoy all of the attractions. The hotel is dated but well kept considering its age. The rooms were clean and the housekeeping and grounds staff were absolutely wonderful. Truth is we really enjoyed our stay... despite the staff at the front desk, the restaurant, and the manager. During our stay we only had a couple minor requests including recommendations for restaurants, quarters for the laundry, and coffee from the "coffee bar." Unfortunately, our questions or requests were met with short replies and a generally unhelpful response. We didn't expect five star treatment but when staff struggle to look away from their cell phones to respond to guest inquiries that leaves a poor impression of their customer service. Overall, would recommend to friends and family with the above caveat.

OVERPAID and SUITES are not that great!

Posted Dec 29, 2014
Pros: nothing the jacuzzi said only 5 people max and there were 10 people in there so of course no room for us.
Cons: lower your prices for what you give
Location: beach
WE booked the ocean view 2 queen bed with pull out sofa. It says it was oceanfront it wasn't there was a boardwalk of people walking by our room it was noisy and not private as we thought. I can't believe we paid 650.00 with taxes! The room had no heat and the lightbulbs were so dim. We had 2 tv's located 10 ft apart. So when the kids watched their show obviously it was the battle of the volume to hear our adult show. Would have been better to had TV closer to the bed in that case. It was WAY over priced! NO free breakfast! When we parked below the housekeeping staff made sure that they cut us off in the garage and refused to back up so we had to thank you. They were shouting at us. The room was marginally clean. So the next night we checked in The Jolla Cove Sutes and it's WAY better and only $150/night. I saved 500.00 staying at another hotel, crazy! The view over here is better too!

Location is best, but others are average

Posted Dec 27, 2014
Pros: Right on the La Jolla shore
Cons: Price, both of room and restaurant
Location: La Jolla shore surfing
This hotel is located right on La Jolla shore. Thus, it is very convenient for surfing and beach tour. However, except the location, we found nothing special. The rate is too pricey.

Beachfront balcony was amazing!

Posted Dec 24, 2014
Pros: I like the old style Mexican feel -- rustic ceramic tile look. Huge room.
Cons: Strange curtains on the wrap around windows in our room -- we had to open the whole thing instead of being able to find an opening to glimpse outside.
Location: Long walks on the beach in winter. swimming or lying on beach in summer!
The room was really big and with a huge balcony right on the beach. We were on the first floor so it really was like being on the beach and I sat outside with my morning coffee every day looking at the waves. It was cool so not many swimmers but a few brave souls and some surfers and Kayakers. Close walk to a little enclave of touristy shops and one great Italian restaurant. (There are two, the one I'm talking about starts with a P -- the other one was not good.) Room was great and the beds were very comfortable. A few issues include not having enough plugs, or easy access plugs for phones etc, none at all near the beds. Also not enough coffee, cups (only one!) not enough creamer packets. There is a fridge so I feel it would b easy to have little creamers instead of powder. Staff was great about getting us more of what we needed though. Food in the restaurant was fine -- particularly for breakfast.

La Jolla beach weekend

Posted Dec 16, 2014
Pros: We like the location, the price, and hotel staff.
Cons: The room heaters could be a little better but overall we really like this hotel.
Location: La Jolla village-fine restaurants and shopping Birch Aquarium at Scripps. Sea World Old Town in San Diego-dining, shopping, and history
This hotel is right on the beach just south of Scripps. My wife have always enjoyed the walk on the beach from the hotel to north of the Scripps's pier. We have a nice view of La Jolla cove to the south from this beach. The staff is very friendly and the service including the restaurant is excellent.

Good location, great food, nice rooms

Posted Dec 1, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Parking is expensive.
Location: Other restaurants are near by and UCSD is close.
I loved the stay in the hotel. The ocean beach is right next to the hotel, and the weather is always great. The food from the hotel was also excellent. Loved the atmosphere and calm setting.

Great Location

Posted Nov 29, 2014
Pros: Location and the size of the property, comfortable but not over indulged.
Cons: A little updating in the rooms and on the decks would make a big difference.
Location: Close to all of the major sights in San Diego. Nothing was more than 30 min away.
Great location for discovering San Diego and surrounding area. Quick access to all major attractions, while still being located very nicely next to the Pacific on a great stretch of beach. Accommodating staff with good facilities. Property is well maintained, but our room needed new carpet and a wallpaper change in the bath. Deck furniture should be changed. Food and bar were good. Parking seemed a bit high at $18 per day in the underground garage of the hotel although the room rate was reasonable. Would stay here again.
