Classic downtown hotel with superb service
Posted Jan 23, 2013
Pros: Beautiful, large and spacious room for 4 people with walk in closet and large shower.
Cons: The gym. Small with a couple treadmills, a cross trainer and some dumbbells. No strength training machines.
Location: Great downtown location overlooking the ocean adjacent to a park, yet with a front door in the downtown area.
Exceptional service, friendly and helpful staff. Valet and desk staff went out of their way to be helpful as did the older gentlemen who took our luggage at check in. Great service. Elegant hotel with very spacious and well appointed guest rooms. We had two teens with us in a double queen room and lots of space. Nice finishes and decor, totally clean and fressh feel, bath and shower area were excellent. One drawback was poor vanity lighting above the sink, perhaps due to the 1926 vintage of the hotel (though they should retrofit that). Excellent pool area, absolutely beautiful setting. Right downtown convenient to all the shopping and restaurants. The gym was a little weak if you are a fitness type. We will definitely return to La Valencia.

Not Worth the Price
Posted Jan 22, 2013
The LAValencia hotel is significantly overpriced, probably due to its location in the heart of LaJolla, one block from the beachwalk area. But there are noisy businesses next door and across the street, the TV package includes no movie-viewing options, and the parking is also expensive, at $29 per night. On the plus side, the pool/spa area is gorgeous, and the bar/lounge/overlook is cozy and pleasing. For about $100 less per night, it would be a good place to consider.

Pros: Dining or lounge veiws of the pacific coast.
Cons: Parking in the area mandates you use the valet.
We felt like we were treated like royalty. First class service. Hotel was much better than any vintage hotel have ever stayed at before.

Good weekend stay at Valencia
Posted Jan 14, 2013
Pros: Adjacency to everything; valet service fantastic
Cons: Elevator is aged and quite slow. Some of the decor still needs updating.
Location: Nearly everything there is to do in La Jolla is nearby; beach; restaurants; swimming; fitness;
Had good stay at Valencia in La Jolla. There is still some construction going on, so outside in front of building is still covered off. Valets are kind, attentive and seem to be holding a higher standard. Overnight valet is expensive but there are not really many places to park that are going to be hassle free, so we just bit the bullet. It was terribly convenient. Rooms are small, but honestly - it's a hotel room, so this was not an issue for us. Staff for the most part were attentive as well - some staff seemed reluctant to say hello or greet us, though would be hard to say why - perhaps they simply wanted to leave us alone because we looked like we were going somewhere. Views are fantastic. The renovation on rooms looks great. Part of the wonder of La Jolla, but also maybe a downside is the unpleasant smells as well - at Valencia or elsewhere in area, especially the open air restaurants you are subject to the smells from sea lions and bird colony on shore. It is quite overpowering at times during the day at the beach, but is also fairly strong at different times at street level.

Elegant, yet cozy hotel

Pros: Try the desserts prepared & served by the pastry chef...the gelato is AMAZING!!!
Even with all the construction ongoing to front hotel area, the place was incredibly comfortable for relaxing. Each night was peaceful and quiet. This was my first visit to La Jolla and to this hotel. The views outside from many locations inside the hotel were GREAT! The ocean and nearby shopping, reastaurants were few steps away.

Great couples hotel.

Pros: Right in the middle of everything. The staff was wonderful.
Cons: Only One elevator that was always backed up. We would avoid it by taking the stairs.
Location: Great location.
This hotel is right in the middle of everything. The valet service is worth the money. This hotel is better for couples. I would not stay here with kids.
