30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT! THE HOTEL AMBIENCE IS CHARMING AND FOR A HOTEL THAT IS 80 YEARS OLD, IT WAS IMMACULATE. THE LOCATION IS GREAT-NEVER DROVE THE CAR-EVERYTHING IS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE. BEAUTIFUL VIEW AND GROUNDS-I WISH THE BALCONY HAD BEEN LARGER WITH FURNITURE, SO WE COULD SIT OUTSIDE AND LISTEN TO THE OCEAN-THE ONLY DRAWBACK. CONCIERGE SENT US A BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE AND CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES-NICE ADDED TOUCH.

Great hotel with excellent staff

Posted Dec 10, 2014
Fantastic, beautiful hotel. Everything from the attentive staff to the landscaping make this a great choice for a La Jolla / San Diego vacation. The rooms are gorgeous, but not spacious, so don't expect a lot of room. But who cares when San Diego is so gorgeous?? Parking is $30 overnight but you can find street parking as well close by if you want to save some cash. Some examples of our stay: We forgot toothpaste, brought right up. Needed a fridge...brought right up and set up. Good restaurant recommendations, and nice little bar (in addition to restaurant). It will make your vacation truly special.

La Jolla

Posted Dec 3, 2014
Pros: Location and views
Cons: House keeping and general maintenance is a problem
Location: Shops, restaurants, kayaking, biking, swimming
The location and views were amazing. My room had dirty floors and a towel with feces on it!!!! My sister also stayed in the hotel but in a different room and had problems with her A/C. When she called to tell the hotel about it, they were very sarcastic to her. The wait staff were very kind and pleasant. Also, if you have any type of allergies to dogs, this is not the hotel for you! Dogs are allowed here.

Love La V

Posted Nov 26, 2014
Pros: Old California style architecture with modern room amenities.
Location: Love to shop at Pomegranate almost right next door, take walks on the ocean path, enjoy restaurants.
Have returned many times and always love our stays at La V. Ocean view rooms are the best, and sitting out on the hotel veranda looking over the sea for breakfast is a must. Staff is friendly and helpful. One of our favorite places to stay.

Venue for wedding weekend.. we were guests.

Posted Nov 24, 2014
Pros: Location to the ocean, pool area.
Cons: policy on tipping could be clear I even inquired at the desk in regard to my statements above, and they politely leave it up to the patron.
Location: Wonderful hiking in the Torrey Pines Nature Reserve
I was surprised at how tiny our bathroom was....I realize it is an old notel, but there was no counter top room for makeup bag or anything. Shower also small, with water splashing out on to floor. The staff at the wedding reception was excellent, as was the food. I was disappointed that the wait staff in the outside cafe, near the wedding site...was clanking the dishes as they cleared the table during the ceremony. I would have thought they could have explained to their patrons that for the 20 minute wedding they would not be clearing tables and making excessive noise. My other disappointment was the constant tipping I felt I was doing...obviously up to me! Valet parking the car, different bell boy storing the bags (room wasn't ready) and yet one more different person bringing the bags to the room. I felt guilty if I didn't tip every time we took the car out of parking....perhaps there could be a one tip policy involving the valet and car....I know it is up to me, but I felt obligated.

Great location

Posted Nov 13, 2014
Pros: Location, clean.
Cons: Better bathroom space and make it more user friendly, reduce parking fees and get firmer pillows.
Location: La Jolla Cove, Scripps park, children's pool, La Jolla Village, La Jolla Shores, La Jolla Cave
La Valencia is located in the middle of the village, adjacent to the cove and scripps park. The hotel was clean and comfortable, but the bathrooms could use some work. The shower is only half covered by a glass panel which theoretically should keep the water in but in fact does not very well. There is also little room to place your toiletries. The staff was friendly and the business center is there so you can print boarding passes when you are ready. One major drawback is that they charge $3O, yes thirty dollars for overnight parking. Don't park there...there is a parking garage a block away which charges $16 overnight, or just park on the street where the parking hours are limited only between 8am to 6pm. The pillows were too mushy and soft. The location is great and the room clean and comfortable, so overall I recommend.

Beautiful hotel - walk to ocean and restaurants

Posted Nov 13, 2014
Pros: Location, accommodations & staff
Cons: WiFi is poor in the outer villas
Location: Walking distance to shops, restaurants & beach. 10 minute drive to Torrey Pines golf course & another 5 minutes to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve
Beautiful layout with spacious rooms. If you're in one of the lower level villas you'll have to climb some steps and the wi-fi reception is poor. The fitness center is small, but adequate. Staff are very friendly. The complimentary chocolate cake & champagne for my birthday was a nice touch !
