Pros: Location
Cons: Customer service, tacky young unintelligent front desk.
When booking through Expedia I chose a garden view and ended up with our view of the building next door (literally 2-3 feet from our window) under construction. When I politely asked the young lady at front desk about our supposed garden view she stood there picking her fingernails and proceeded to tell me that was the garden view. She was unable to listen she just had excuses. It was a lovely hotel but very poor customer service. When your paying $260.00 a night the customer should be heard. Probably wouldn't stay again!

La Valencia

Pros: great staff, views and food...
Cons: they only have one elevator, so if your room is in the tower you will need to be patient
Stayed a week and had a great time at the Valencia and the city of La Jolla. Lots of things to do and plenty of great places to eat along Prospect St.

Couldn't believe it was an Expedia VIP hotel.

We were initially very excited to stay in this hotel. As a final trip before the birth of our baby, we splurged on a really fancy room for the weekend. They gave us a significantly cheaper room (without telling us about the switch) next to a kitchen that smelled bad. We asked to move but were told the room we paid for was sold out for the night. They said they would give us breakfast credits "for our troubles" but even ended up going back on that deal and charging our credit card for it after we left. Ruined our trip for sure.

Beautiful view but not the friendliest of staff

This hotel has beautiful views from the common areas.. But most rooms have a pool view or no view at all and are still $400 to $500 per night. The staff was a bit rude in the common bar area, if you do not have a dinner reservation they will not help you with getting drinks.

Beautiful old hotel, but small room & 1 bad night

Location: Shopping, but pricey of course, the Zoo, Scripps Aquarium, kayaking or sailing, fine dining, but can be very pricey, seals and pelicans, bay swimming.
Husband and I looking for classy way to celebrate our big anniversary. Pleasantly surprised by champagne and chocolate strawberries with congrats note on arrival, but disappointed by tiny room. Not enough space for both of us to walk around foot of bed. Tiny bathroom with low shower head and not 2 as advertised. Very loud AC blower in middle of room, unable to access TV shows menu on remote, sporadically slow and sometimes unavailable free Wi-Fi. Pluses were beautiful hotel, pool, gardens, restaurants, well-kept grounds, gorgeous vistas of the ocean and most of the staff who were very friendly and helpful. However on what should have been our perfect anniversary night dinner at the hotel restaurant things went from bad to worse. We called to make a reservation and were told it wasn't necessary. When we went down, maitre'd told us reservation was needed, they were short staffed and it would be a 20-30 minute wait. That was fine, we waited in their beautiful comfortable lobby while staff hurried by us with food orders. 20, 30 then 40 minutes passed. Tried hard to catch eye of maitre'd but he carefully ignored us. One word of reassurance or just an update would have kept us a bit longer, but when none came we got up and left and did find a very nice Italian restaurant down the road to celebrate. So a partly pleasant experience in a beautiful city but for what we paid, not completely worth it. Did complain at check out and they took off few days of overpriced parking
