Truck stop motel in La Jolla

Posted Jun 23, 2014
Pros: Location.
Cons: Room quality to match price. Change the room description to better reflect what you will actually receive.
The pictures on-line and the descriptions used to describe the facility are very misleading. The room was more in line with a motel on the side of the highway. Cheap sheets, plastic shower stall, old vinyl curtain, faded pictures of tropical flowers, stopped up drain, hot and cold switched and minimal furniture purchased at a garage sale. All not what you feel is described as a spa-boutique hotel in La Jolla Ca. When I asked the desk personnel, she said no, it says a bed, bath and refrigerator. Her response was 'You have that......' I guess it did. Moral of the story, buyer beware. You will pay spa hotel prices and stay in a room like a highway motel.

Awesome location but Tale of Two Cities

Posted Jun 17, 2014
Pros: Location, location, location plus free parking in an area where this is very little available parking
Cons: Keep the room in good working order and keep it cleaner
Location: Gorgeous views of the ocean directly across the street. Lots of restaurants and shops within a few blocks from the hotel. Really a lovely area.
The Pantai Inn is located along the waterfront and near to the downtown section of La Jolla. It is a very beautiful location with restaurants and shops within walking distance. The hotel proper looks lovely, but the hotel consists of a number of buildings and the one we ended up in is much different than the hotel proper. The room we had was small and at street level - literally about 20 feet from the street. The bathroom was tiny and the floor of the shower was cracked badly and water leaked through the crack. The wall outside the shower was mildewed as a result. Half the lightbulbs above the sink did not work. The room above our room has a deck. Throughout our stay - at night and at the crack of dawn people were on the deck moving chairs around - sounded like a herd of elephants was above us. For $250 per night, we expected something a lot nicer than what we got. We are not saying avoid the Pantai, but we are saying you should make sure what room you are getting - ours was NOT a pleasant experience.

A gem at the cove!

Posted Jun 12, 2014
Pros: Everything inside was well appointed and it was just one block away from the main drag (Prospect) where all the shops and restaurants are in La Jolla.
Location: Walking in the morning along the cove. Park for kids & dogs. One block up the hill is Prospect Ave with all the stores, galleries & restaurants.
We were upgraded from a partial view to full view room without asking. It was the size of a casita and a great view of the park right at the Cove. Quiet, romantic, clean and beautiful furniture.

Right on the coast

Posted May 29, 2014
Pros: The location of this hotel is its number one asset. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, it is in a great position. All the restaurants are very close by.
Cons: Front desk is not always attended. The refilling of the breakfast items often had to be requested.
Location: La Jolla Shores is a 25 min walk and most of the walk is along the coast. Great views. Seals and sea lions are everywhere along the coast.
Spent 3 days at La Jolla and then 5 days in Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego. Had a great time in both spots. Spent one whole day at La Jolla Shores and one day at Coronado beach. Otherwise, the rest of the time going to SeaWorld, the San Diego zoo etc. Had a great time, pity the Padres lost but otherwise highly recommend San Diego as a city to visit.

Exceptional beyond our expectations

Posted Apr 7, 2014
Pros: Everything. Room size. Room Location. Room appointments. Bathroom. Location. Patio.
Cons: Add a zip-line to the beach? In all sincerity, Nothing -- Was fantastic.
Location: Beaches, running, walking, shopping, eating (make sure you go to George's at the Cove for sunset).
We stayed in 208 which was a 2nd story Balinese bungalow overlooking the ocean. The room/bungalow was either brand new or recently remodeled so it was very fresh (it also seemed VERY well maintained). There was a large living room, a nice sized bedroom, a large kitchenette (more like a full kitchen) and a very nice bathroom large enough for two adults to get ready. The living room also had a murphy bed built into a nice piece of Balinese furniture. The large patio on the front looked out over Coast Blvd and the ocean. Service was excellent as was the continental breakfast. Anyone familiar with the area knows that there are long/steep/winding hills from Prospect (where all the shops and dining are) down to the coast but hidden just above Pan Tai Inn is a nice stair way that lands you right up beside Smash Burger. This will now be our go-to spot for La Jolla stays.

Great hotel and excellent staff.

Pros: The continental breakfast was great. The location can't be beat.
Location: You can walk up the hill to all the restaurants in La Jolla. Balboa Park, The zoo, sea.world, San Diego are all a close drive.
We will stay here again. We sat on our porch with a glass of wine and watched the sun set every day. Then went inside and sat in front of the fire to warm up. It was truly our best vacation.

Great LA Jolla location

Posted Mar 29, 2014
Great location, huge rooms (albeit blandly decorated) with small kitchens, clean, on the seafront and a minute to the high street, free parking, and reasonable also free wifi. Only 2 small things: breakfast is disappointing, and my bathroom was cleaned but nothing else, bed not made. Not quite sure why.
