Short walk to Gaslamp, but borders the freeway

Posted Jun 25, 2015
I couldn't open my door when I first got there and required assistance to get into my room. I was told that "the building sometimes shifts." The room itself wasn't bad and was pretty comfortable, but the bedsheets were stained and the freeway and other guests were very loud. I can sleep through just about anything so I didn't mind the noise. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. This hotel is a 10 minute walk to the Gaslamp district in downtown San Diego so I didn't spend much time in the room. Also, there is free parking, but there isn't much of it and it's first come first serve.

Parking is a Lie. Room was filthy. Very poor beds.

Posted Jun 22, 2015
Pros: It had a room available for our last minute plans downtown. The guy at the front desk was helpful.
Cons: Mainly the cleanliness and parking. I can overlook the 70s-era decor and basic amenities provided the room is CLEAN. The beds could def. be improved.
Location: Downtown. We were here to party in the gaslamp and didn't want to worry about a DD or worse yet a DUI.
I've stayed in dozens of seedy cheap motels up and down the west coast, and this is far and away the filthiest motel I've ever seen, and the only time I've ever come across a room that straight up had not been cleaned. The floor was covered with debris. There was a wet old towel sitting in the shower. The photos of the rooms shown here are a fantasy - it's hard to believe they came from the same motel that we stayed in. Parking was a complete nightmare. This motel is located in an extremely dangerous location on a one-way street right at the end of a sharply curved freeway offramp, so just getting into the tiny 6-car parking lot involves a daring leap-of-faith blind merge from a stop, into fast-moving freeway offramp traffic that you can't even see coming for more than about 50ft. The lot was full when we arrived but the person at the desk told us to park in the handicap spot. We did so, and the next morning found that someone had dumped soda all over the side of my car. Had that one spot not been available I would have been much more upset - the advertised Free Parking was a major factor in our choice to stay here and there were no other parking options nearby. What they don't mention is that the lot is hilariously undersized even for this small motel. The beds were pretty bad too, and the pillows were tiny. Fortunately we had been drinking so I could have slept on concrete at that point. I would not consider staying here again even if I were desperate for a room.

I am sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced. Our rooms are inspected every day for cleanliness. The motel does advertized that we have "Limited Parking" and there is available parking right next door for $5.00. Our parking states that the parking is first come, first serve and we have multiple signs in the lodge lobby to address the issue. The hotel is conveniently located off the freeway and close to downtown, which our guest all love (thru prior experiences). I can assure you that by "law" we are not allowed to tell guest to park in the handicap parking and we are not legally allowed to do so.

Close to Downtown San Diego

Posted Jun 21, 2015
Pros: Close to downtown San Diego. Within walking distance to restaurants and attractions.
Cons: The outside needs to be renovated. It gives a bad first impression.
Location: The House of Blues is within walking distance (.4 miles), Balboa Park is close by car, Petco park is .8 miles away, and Horton Plaza is .7 miles.
The outside of the hotel needs work. There are no elevators only stairs. The rooms were ok. It seemed as though they tried to update everything the fixtures and such inside the room. The TV was nice, the bed was comfortable, and the shower worked well. It is a good location if you are staying one night to party in downtown or go to a ball game. Restaurants and attractions were within walking distance. If you are staying longer or want something mid to up scale. I would not choose this hotel.

Good value

The room was reasonably clean, room spacious, but the location is hard to reach. One way streets. Easy to get to from 163, other than that, very difficult. not the greatest neighborhood, but I did okay as a woman by myself. Good if you want an inexpensive place to stay. The man who runs the place was very nice. Carried my suitcase up the stairs for me.

The Price is Right

If you're looking for a fancy hotel, this is not it, but for what you pay for this is an excellent choice. Close to gaslamp and the room was comfortable and clean.

Quite an experience

Headed down the freeway when the GPS tells me I am 1/2 mile from my destination, after a 3 hour drive this was exciting news. Exit the freeway and drive 1000 feet and there it is. The INN is literally a stones throw off the freeway. It's a small place, but from the outside it looks nice. The front desk was very kind and helpful. However, the room was not. Very small room, which is to be expected, but all the problems that came with were not. Despite the front desk claiming the room was not smoking the bed sheets were riddled with cigarette burn holes. The pillows are tiny and flat and very uncomfortable. The water pressure in the shower was nonexistent. The AC in our room was terrible and couldn't cool down this tiny room which left me to keep the windows open at night, normally not an issue but as I mentioned it is right off the freeway. So with the windows open you could hear every passing car all throughout the night and if the cars weren't the noise factor then you were lucky enough to hear the homeless people right out yelling about all night. The only redeeming quality this place has is the fact that it is very close to the downtown area where you want to be. Walking distance or a cheap Uber ride away. Beyond that there was nothing redeeming about this place. Spend a little extra and get yourself a better place.

Hotel near the freeway

Posted Jun 1, 2015
Pros: It was walking distance to Petco park and Balboa Park
Cons: It could be a lot more clean, the mattresses need to be replaced, room cleaning needs to clean the place, and thicken up the walls.
Location: It is close to Petco Park, Balboa Park, and Gaslamp district.
This was pretty much the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. There were cigarette burns in my comforter, clothes left over from the people who stayed in the room before us, and although it says "free parking", there are only about 8 spots for the whole hotel. The woman at the front desk was nice, but that's about it. The walls are paper thin. We heard all the conversations of the people in the rooms next to us, and we were constantly woken up by the loud party above us. Even when they weren't partying, you could hear every step they took. It is on a very bad corner. There are many homeless people on the street, and I would not classify this as a family friendly place.
