“My laptop got a virus from using their Wi-Fi, other than that I was happy”

“Mold on the shower curtain, no thank you!”

We arrived late at night so I didn't notice a lot of things until morning... breakfast was a "C" at best (even my kids wouldn't eat the muffins and the cereal they ate was stale, if it hadn't been for the fruit we wouldn't have had anything to eat at all). We could see the ocean while we ate our breakfast on an open patio above the motel office; it was that or take it back to our room. The room itself was a "C-", it was completely outdated with old carpet and bedspreads but the worst was the bathroom. The shower curtain had mold on it and the bathtub was so dirty I wouldn't even give my kids a bath while we were there. You can't beat the location. And it was cheap so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. If I'm ever in the area again though, I will be looking for somewhere else to stay.

“Fun at the Beach”

The location was great with easy access to the beach. It's located just south of downtown Carlsbad and is within walking distance of many restaurants and other places for entertainment. The rooms themselves were well kept; the only downside I would say is that our room was small. I would definitely consider staying there again!

“Wonderful location!”

My wife and I snuck away to Carlsbad for a weekend and had a wonderful time. This little motel was exactly what we wanted. The hotel itself was nothing over the top; kind of like a Motel 6. But, the location was as perfect as it could be. Right across the street from the beach and well within walking distance of a ton of nightlife. Never thought I'd say that I can't wait to get back to Carlsbad, but we can't. And, we'll definitely stay at the Surf Motel when we return.

“Great Place to Stay!”

Clean motel with very friendly, helpful staff. Continental breakfast in the morning. Half a block to the beach in one direction, and half block to the village with restaurants and shops in the other direction. I can't wait to go back next year.

“Great location!”

Stayed here for 3 nights Labor Day weekend. Great location - parked the car and never moved it, we walked everywhere. To the beach (1.5 blocks), restaurants (from 100 feet to longer walks of 5 blocks or so), shops (everywhere!). If you are seeking quiet, ask for a room in the back of the property. We had a private balcony looking east, and were not bothered by noisy folks in other rooms/parking lot. Cost a bit pricey, but the Continental BFast was outstanding, with an abundance of fresh fruit and good coffee.

Area recommendations

Recommend this area - everything in Carlsbad (near Village Center) is walking distance, including a great beach.

“a.c. please”

Small clean room, nice staff, decent continental breakfast. However our a.c. didnt work. The place was completely full so we just slept with the window open.

“Super nice staff and beautiful view - steps to the beach!”

Everyone is really nice here! This is the first time we have stayed in Carlsbad and we will be coming back! Very convient to beach and restaurants. The staff was awesome!

“Another vacation success at the Surf Motel Carlsbad”

I knew our stay at the Surf Motel in Carlsbad, Ca would be a good one because I am a return customer; I was right. We spent five nights and it couldn't have been a more peaceful and relaxing stay; the rooms were still as nice and clean as I expected and the staff was awesome. If you're an ocean lover, well it's about a three minute walk from the Surf Motel to one of the nicest beaches in SoCal. The Surf Motel also offered a better than average continental breakfast each morning and provided beach supplies for the guests (beach towels, boogie boards, sand toys, umbrella). For the price, location, and hospitality you can't beat the Surf Motel.

The entire area surrounding the Surf Motel in Carlsbad, Ca. is a treasure trove, dining, activities, sightseeing; there's something for all ages.

A special favorite of ours is the "Armenian Cafe" right in the parking lot of the Surf Motel; excellent food and great atmosphere.
