“not your usual cookie cutter hotel”

The Horton grand is a very nice , quiet hotel. It has a charm of it's own. It was within easy walking distance of almost everything that we did. The neighbor hood is safe and clean. Our room had a gas fireplace, a small balconey overlooking the courtyard and the bed was comfortable. This is probably not the place to stay if you are lokking for a pool and or a bar, but that wasn't what we were looking for. I would stay there again and tell my frineds about it.

“Gas Lamp Quarters' Best Kept Secret”

The Horton Grand Hotel served well for the purpose of my stay. I travel alone to attend conferences and I always check Expedia for my travel and hotel accommodations. When I saw the Horton Grand Hotel, I did my research of the facility online, I knew, at the very least, I would find it an interesting place to stay. The staff was friendly, breakfast served at your restaurant and the room service was great, maid service was wonderful, it was very affordable. The late historical Victorian era decor was fitting and definitely captured the moment of history. The room was very nice; king-size bed, fireplace, and a quaint, yet usable balcony that overlooked the courtyard. The Horton has a history to read, dated pictures see and take in and the walk down the halls took me back in time to feel the ambiance of the era as those that lived it in its prime. Knowing that the likes of President Benjamin Harrison, Jack Dempsy, Joe Lewis, and Babe Ruth were once guests and that Wyatt Earp and his wife were lengthy residents there, was a nostalgic moment that you could envision as you laid on the bed and looked about the room. I only wish I would have thought requested the room that gambler extraordinaire, Roger Whitaker is said to haunt. Thank you, Dori and John Rose; your staff did an outstanding job of making me feel welcome and a part of the historical era. I hope to visit San Diego again and when I do; the Horton Grand will be my choice of stay.

“quiet and close”

This trip was the second time we stayed at the Grand Horton. We found it quiet and comfortable and very convenient to the convention center and gaslight district. It's a little kitschy with all of the antiques and old stuff around but even that's kinda cool. The cafe and bar are nice and quiet and the staff are very helpful. We'll stay there again.

“Room 329-- Comfort and character”

Comfortable room with a balcony overlooking 4th and Island. May be a little noisy for some, but we enjoyed the scene. The room was good-sized and very nicely furnished. This hotel combines comfort and a distinct historical character. Location is good. A short walk to the Convention Center, Petco Park, and the Trolley, and in the Gaslamp Quarter.

“Weekend downtown”

Stayed downtown to watch the Padres play over the weekend. Unfortunately, they were bad, but the hotel made up for it. Comfortable bed, great location near the Gaslamp District. Was able to enjoy different places to eat and drink and not have to drive.

“Great Time in San Diego”

This was a great place. Easy to find - perfectly placed for the downtown area. Walk to Shops/Restaurants on Bay, easy to Zoo and art museums. Not far from freeways. Room was small - yet beautiful - very quiet and we were on the street level. We really enjoyed our two night stay.

“Good choice”

This is a smaller hotel that has been preserved in its historical manner. It is about two blocks to the convention center and the much more expensive bigger hotels. The restaurant is not open very long, but they are right by the fifth avenue strip that has lots of bars and hotels.

“romance in the heart of downtown”

This hotel was charming and the staff was all very attentive! we will definitely be coming back! Room balcony over-looking a a tree-filled courtyard strung up with tiny white lights= romance! Beautiful!

“great downtown location”

just a one night stay for a baseball game. Hotel was walking distance to the stadium and lots of great restaurants and nightclubs. Great location in the heart of the gaslamp district. Clean hotel, efficient staff.
