Such charm!

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: Ambiance, room comfort, courtyard
I was fortunate enough to have a lovely room with a balcony, and a stunning view. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel was so charming, that I would definitely plan to stay again.

Noisy

Posted Jul 11, 2014
Pros: Good location
Cons: Make the rooms more sound proof.
Had to move rooms it was that noisy outside. We could start a conversation with people walking the street. Moved rooms was slightly better. Overpriced for what it was, particularly when considering you had to valet park your car.

Our sincerest apologies for the level of noise experienced during your stay. Being located so conveniently in the Gaslamp District is certainly a plus, but obviously there are times when the city is a buzz. Hopefully when you return to the San Diego area we will have the opportunity to host you again in one of our more quiet room locations.

Pros: Breakfast was great. Nice to have music right there in hotel. Staff consistently helpful
Loud air conditioner in bathroom, but so much fun in San Diego, I was able to fall asleep. Wall paper and electrical outlets in process of upgrade on 4th floor. No advance notice of this, kind of shocking to see.

Close to Petco Park but so dated

Posted Jul 7, 2014
Pros: Location near Petco Park; quiet neighbors (not too close to the late-night places in the Gaslamp district).
Cons: Decor, decor, decor. Look at Inn at East Beach in Santa Barbara for an example of a hotel that updated its decor to be timeless.
Location: Sunday market one block south was a nice surprise, with the street blocked off and people selling food and jewelry and other handmade items.
This historic hotel is within close walking distance to Petco Park. It is in a quiet locale, but the overall decor is so dated. They seem to be trying to update some areas, as there is wallpaper already peeled off hallways, and in the process of peeling off in other hallways. The architecture is so pleasing, but the attempt to keep the decor matching the age of the building fails. It results in fuddy-duddy furniture in some of the rooms, and many of the landings. One of our rooms had an updated bathroom, but one had very old-fashioned wallpaper that was peeling off and paint that was bubbling off in places. The mattress was way too soft, and the television needs to be HD. Breakfast was not included in the price of the stay. With all the hotels in the area, we will look for another one the next time we are in town for a baseball game.

Very Charming and Beautiful Old Hotel

Posted Jul 7, 2014
Pros: The oldness of the hotel is fun. The location is perfect!!! So close to Seaport Village, the railway and Petco Stadium.
Cons: The buffet breakfast was nice but I think it could've been included in the hotel stay.
Location: The location is perfect, unless you want to be close to the beach. Transit time to get to Mission Bay beach was about 1hr. It was easy though.
At first appearance of the Horton Grand Hotel from outside, you think Wow! this is beautiful, you step inside and the decor is very inviting and fun to look at. I loved this hotel! From the old staircase, to the amazingly large crown molding, it is beautiful! There is history galore and a room that has a ghost. Well, maybe:):) So the legend says. Even though this hotel is old, it is well kept and clean. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. I will stay here again when visiting San Diego.

Location, location, location!

Posted Jun 23, 2014
Pros: Location to Petco Park and distance to all restaurants within the Gas Lamp District.
Cons: More counter space in the bathrooms.
Location: Petco Park is approximately 3-4 blocks away. Restaurants, night clubs and museums are all within walking distance.
San Diego has many locations (areas) to stay, however if you want to spend the weekend exploring the Gas lamp District (including a visit to Petco Park) without ever using a vehicle, then this is a fantastic Hotel. This Hotel is more suited for adults. Pros: Can enjoy any restaurant, night club or shopping within walking distance in all directions (even a museum) The bar is very nice and well stocked. Nice patio area to enjoy a drink and people watch Cons: Some may view the rooms as small and a bit old, however they were clean and neat. Note: must have breakfast at Richard Walkers!
