It's always a good time staying at the Lafayette although they might want to upkeep with minor damage and carpet stains in the rooms

EXCELLENT AND RELAXING

Posted Nov 5, 2014
Pros: Centrally located and its history behind it....
Cons: Parking could be better. Limited parking to guest
Location: Lots of local friendly restaurants..Dennys, Mcdonalds walking distance from hotel
Centrally located to recreational parks like Balboa Park and SD Zoo. Less than 10min to get there. Staff was super friendly Aimee and Margarita were awesome! Thank you for the great stay.

It maybe worth it if you get the sale rate...

It's a vintage hotel that was supposedly renovated a few years ago. Appears that most of the Reno was to spruce up the public areas - like the pool- not the rooms. Room was clean, but very plain, linens were ok, carpet was already worn to the point I felt uncomfortable walking barefoot. King bed in our room was too soft for my taste. The only sitting option was a beat up black office chair circa 1990s. Ice machine on my floor was broken, and I was told by an employee, not quite politely, to go down to the lobby bar to get ice. No apologies offered for the inconvenience. They charge 8 bucks for parking, which is kinda silly given plenty of street parking available. Location of the hotel is in a transitional neighborhood, which may make some people uncomfortable, but it's close to many good eateries.

Ignored

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Staff, continental breakfast or snacks.
Location: Not impressed sort of a bad area.
Put us off at the end of the hotel underground parking led to room. Never saw the lobby, pool, or bungalos. It would be great foe a felon. No one ever saw us.

Termites in the room.

Posted Oct 26, 2014
The room had termites so we checked out 30 minutes after we checked in . We didn't feel comfortable staying there. The staff apologized but that was the extend.

First San Diego visit

Posted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: location
As suggested by my son, it was close to them. The Hotel was a pleasant stroll into nostalgia. Built in the 40's, it attempeted to draw the celebrities to that part of town. It's history is part of the charm. The room was somewhat "spartan", but clean and comfortable. The staff was very accomodating and cordial. Over the next few years, I expect to make several trips to San Diego and will readily book another stay at the Lafayette. Thank you

Different vibe

Posted Oct 20, 2014
If you are looking for a different vibe in San Diego this is the place for you. We found it convienent with a classy feel however the street noise kept us up at times at night and the bunk bed was very uncomfortable. We were sad the photos made it look like we would have a balcony and face the pool but instead we faced the street. Also the bathrooms were very small to get ready in, there was a charge to park and to use the fridge, also no elevators.
