Disappointing experiencePosted Dec 2, 2013
Pros: Positive: The only pleasant experience at this hotel was the restaurant. Beautiful views, good food (we had breakfast) and outstanding service.
Cons: Rooms are due for renovation. Staff could be more attentive to the cleanliness of the swimming pool.
Location: We enjoyed a long hike in the national park (approximately 3 miles walk to the beach).
Negative: Our room was dark like a dungeon with black wallpaper in the bathroom. The room smelled like an old mattress or old carpet. No ventilation in the toilet. Stains from the old rubber mat on the bottom of the bathtub and mold or dirt in the grout around tiles. We thought we would try the swimming pool but it was very dirty with lots of dirt in the water and ducks' poop inside the swimming pool. Ducks were enjoying the pool as we came. When we mentioned ducks' poop in the swimming pool to the staff, they said it is something hard to prevent.

Beautiful hotel peaceful locationPosted Nov 11, 2013
Loved the hotel. Our room was ok. I have heard there are better rooms. We had no fireplace so little disappointing. Our bathroom flooded every time you took a shower. Up dated bathrooms but ours was very strange. Staff very nice. Grill food ok other restaurant very nice for breakfast. Eat out on the deck overlooking pool and golf course!

Nice resort, beautiful grounds.Posted Oct 22, 2013
Truly enjoyed our stay. Very good service overall. One minor complaint was my salad which had old tomatoes and one spoiled one - I would not expect that at a resort of this caliber. Otherwise all very nice.

Stayed in August 2013Posted Sep 7, 2013
Pros: We felt like we were in the mountains as there are pine trees all around us. The room was great the bed was very comfortable and plenty extra pillows
Location: Lots of places to dine. We had breakfast at a nearby sidewalk café overlooking the ocean.
All the staff were courteous and eager to be of assistance. We Valet parked for an extra $5 and it was much worth it. We just would call from our room every time we had to go somewhere.

45th Anniversary TripPosted Sep 2, 2013
Pros: The room was clean and well stocked. The housekeeping was excellent and the turn down service was a nice addition. The staff was outstanding!
Cons: Nothing...everything was very professional and accommodating.
Location: We did the general tourist scene...Zoo, Midway, and the Safari Park, which was by far the most interesting to us...being senior citizens.
This was our first trip to the San Diego area. We absolutely had a wonderful time and your climate is outstanding. It was certainly hard to come back to Houston, TX after our trip. Thanks to all at the Torrey Pines Lodge!

Very nice hotel for twice the price.Posted Aug 19, 2013
Pros: Location- on Torrey Pines Golf Course
Cons: The price to stay there.
Location: Play golf, drive up the PCH and enjoy the scenery.
Bottom line...this hotel is worth about 1/2 the price you pay.

Worth the Five Diamond ratingPosted Aug 7, 2013
Pros: Good location, attentive staff, understated elegance.
Cons: Breakfast was great at main restaurant - wish it was available other days beyond Saturday and Sunday.
Location: San Diego is 20 mins away,
We spent 3 nights at the Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed it - very low key. I was concerned about reviews criticizing staff as mechanical - on the contrary I found them well trained and anticipating our needs. The room was large (Signature two queens) enough for two adults and two teenagers. The food at both restaurants was top notch - try the burger at the clubhouse grill, and any of the fish dishes. This is a top hotel with a good location - close to San Diego and all of the beach towns north.
