Nice Affordable Hotel.

Posted Jun 29, 2015
Pros: Location and price
Location: GasLamp District, Downtown, Movies, Metro
Friendly staff that offered early check in. Great rates compared to other hotels in the area. The Sofia has a pleasant atmosphere and is within walking distance to Amtrak/Metro Link Station and gas lamp quarters and other areas of interest. Rooms are small, but comfortable.

Nice clean hotel near restaurants and attractions

I loved the location of the hotel. It's close to the marina and close to the Gaslamp District. The bed was comfy!! This is a great hotel to stay at.

great hotel with competent and helpful staff!

Posted Jun 29, 2015
Pros: most everything. The staff, the charm, the way they have kept the original Pickwick and didn't just gut it completely and slap in a new hotel
Cons: I would have liked to have a standard flat sheet on the bed under the duvet. It was warm in the room, not enough for AC, wanted just a sheet
Location: All the restaurants in the gaslamp are wonderful to peruse. Also Horton plaza and the whole waterfront!
My wife and I went to the Sofia Hotel for our anniversary. The hotel has kept the charm and luxury of the old Pickwick hotel alive with modern amenities that add to without destroying the appeal of the classic hotel. I found the staff to be helpful and courteous. I called the concierge to arrange flowers in our room and it was taken care of perfectly. The girl who checked us in was friendly and when she heard it was our anniversary, without hesitation arranged a nice bottle of wine for us in the room (asking our preferences and not just giving us the stock bottle of bubbly). She was also very helpful with suggestions for dinner (which was excellent as well!). We have some other engagements where we will need a place to stay in the city and we will definitely be checking into the Sofia :).

Nice average Hotel in centre of City

Posted Jun 28, 2015
Pros: Location ,staff and price.
Cons: English breakfast tea for international visitors that do not drink coffee. hotel needs some improvements such as new carpets etc.
Location: Good location for shopping, sight seeing and restaurants.
Good staff, room nice but small . Hotel in centre of City and close to Nancy restaurants, however there are many homeless people in streets so felt a little unsafe. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Very nice & clean. Beautiful decor and comfortable

Posted Jun 24, 2015
The front desk clerks were very understanding of my situation of having a handicap mother. They listened to my requests regarding room needs. The interior decorations were very nice. Hotel was very clean, room configurations well designed. The only two things I brought up to staff is they need a door stop so it's easier for wheelchairs to enter room (we stayed in a handicap accessible room) and a larger hand-held shower head with more pressure. Toto brand sells a beautiful one that is larger in diameter and light weight. The Currant restaurant served a delicious breakfast. They are located within the hotel. Overall stay at The Sofia Hotel was pleasant and comfortable. 😊

Nice hotel

Posted Jun 24, 2015
Pros: The room was clean, the AC was perfect
Cons: The parking was overpriced and should be secured more.
Location: The gaslamp is really close
My boyfriend and I stood here for my 21st birthday and it was a small room but perfect for the two of us. The room was clean, comfortable and staff was nice. It was surprisingly close to downtown, so we walked everywhere. Definitely stay here again, and definitely recommend this hotel!

Nice hotel within walking distance to Gaslamp

Posted Jun 23, 2015
This is the second time that my friends and I stay at the Sofia. They are one of the few hotels that offer 2 beds for a decent price. The staff was amazing! Especially John from Concierge whom helped us A couple times. He also recommended a great bar for beer. The only downside is that the beds were doubles. Then again, the rooms are not very big so putting in queens would leave less space to move around. Overall, our stay was awesome!!!
