History and luxury and a great locationPosted Apr 12, 2014
Pros: Luxury and history.
Cons: Room service and in-hotel dining is crazy expensive, but there are plenty of alternatives nearby.
The 1920-built, thoroughly renovated US Grant (developed by the President's son) is steps away from both the downtown business area and the Gaslight District. It is also directly across the street from the upscale Horton Plaza mall. Rooms are spacious with high ceilings and top quality details. The public areas are all gleaming marble with period details. The staff is consistently warm and efficient.

Great Hotel for a home base to walk downtown sitesPosted Apr 2, 2014
Pros: Location and the antique-ness of it.
Cons: Wifi in rooms sucked the big one.
Location: Good Nightlife, could get a little randy on Saturday nights. A lot of Panhandlers, although they didn't seem to be too aggressive.
Hotel was nice, one negative no bathtubs.. Staff was friendly, great location to walk the gaslamp quarter. Many cafes and bars. We also walked to the convention centre, the US Midway and to the trolley stops for the city tour. We took the #7 metro bus to the zoo, very easy to do. The stop was right outside the hotel. We also walked to Petco field for a ballgame , that was fun!

Grand hotel with friendly staffPosted Mar 31, 2014
The location is nice. Walking distance to Gaslamp busy streets and Petco park but a little bit away from the noise. Hotel lobby is very grand with marble and chandelier. The room is comfortable but I do wish the comforter can be better quality. There is no pool in the hotel which is not common for a big hotel like this, but u can access the pool in hotel across the street with the room key.

Good Location, very helpful staff,Posted Mar 31, 2014
We stayed for 3 nights on our first trip to San Diego, the conciege was extremely helpful, with suggestions for visits and maps, hotel is in great location easy to walk to many places of interest. One tip if your room doesn't have a coffee maker ask for one, apparently they are available for all rooms but you have to ask, something we didn't find out until our last morning as we were not told and the information is not listed anywhere. Other than this the room was very comfortable with a great shower.

Convenient to Downtown/Gaslight District.Posted Mar 29, 2014
Pros: The location.
Cons: The bathrooms, room furnishings.
Location: Great restaurants, nigh life.
It's a great location for a first time visitor to San Diego, especially if you want to be in the Gaslight district, walkable to many restaurants and clubs. If you're looking for the beach, head out to Coronado. The room we had was dark (looked out on an alley, with no light). The bathroom was cramped, and in our case the toilet kept running unless you opened the lid and reset the flapper. There was no hand held shower, and a very weak flow of water from the shower head. My biggest pet peeve was the lack of a bedside table on both sides of the bed. I had to drag a chair over to my side for a place to set my Kindle and bottle of water. The lobby bar was good, and the parking was efficient (although not cheap). If it had been less expensive I wouldn't be as harsh.

Excellent staffPosted Mar 8, 2014
Pros: Character, staff, and history.
Cons: Key door entry system. Coffee availability in the am without sitting down in the dining room.
Location: At the upper edge of the Gaslamp district, it is convenient to all locations in the district with a short walk. Excellent dining nearby.
This is a very nice, older hotel at the edge of the historic Gaslamp district. It is a very nice alternative to the new luxury hotels on the waterfront, and is yet within walking distance of the Convention Center. The staff was excellent, and it has both a Starbucks and Panera's just across the street.

If you love comfort, this is it!Posted Feb 25, 2014
Pros: The ambience.
Cons: Offer free Wi-Fi.
Location: We love the gaslight district in San Diego. Easy to get on the freeway to go places. Very convenient to the airport.
We were visiting friends and wanted to stay somewhere special. This hotel has a wonderful staff, their restaurant and bar are outstanding, and our room was very comfortable. The whole hotel is beautiful and gives you a peaceful feeling.
