Beautiful hotel on Pacific Beach!

Posted Jul 9, 2014
Pros: Just about everything!
Cons: The only downside (although expected) is that the restaurant was over-priced. The food and service were excellent though.
Location: Bike, surf, walk the beach, shop, eat at a wide range of restaurant, dance... you name it, you can find it.
Beautiful hotel with friendly and helpful staff! I loved the modern chic decor. You could rent bikes, beach towels, chairs, umbrellas and a whole host of other things from the concierge desk. This was really a great experience. I will definitely be a return customer! LOVE!

On the beach, modern and clean.

Pros: Everything!
Cons: Lower parking fee
Location: It is a short trip to everywhere: Old Town, Maritime Museum, Gas Lamp District, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Museums. But, you do need a car.
We loved being able to walk out right onto the beach. The paved pathway in front of the hotel and all along the beach was enjoyable to walk and ride bikes. Bikes, chairs, umbrellas, towels and toys were all courtesy check out at the hotel. Everyone working there was very courteous, responsive and helpful in every way. The restaurant is lovely and overlooks the beach as well as the upstairs deck. The bar scene in the restaurant and the wedding reception adjacent next to the restaurant was a bit noisy on Friday night. The immediate area has a lot of local bars but there are also a few good restaurants and eateries nearby too. The hotel staff was very helpful with recommendations. We did drive into Old Town and downtown as well for activities and they were close enough not to have to be all day excursions. The nightly parking charge was a surprise at $20 a day.

This was a very beautiful hotel with a great view. It's small but perfect for where it's at. Liteterally just a couple steps from the beach! Wish they had a separate spa but it was great nonetheless.

Most amazing comfort and view.

Amazing view. To lay on a chaise lounge sipping my coffee watching the waves come in ...just doesn't get much better.

looked like their was a pool on the website but was disappointed to find it was only a foot deep water display?? Staff was great about supplying boogie boards, towels and chairs, etc. Overall just OK....was a very busy beachfront area and touristy...not as relaxing as I was imagining.

Used to be outstanding, now just overpriced

Pros: Great location on the beach, next to Crystal Pier, lots of restaurants nearby.
Cons: Furnishings need a refresh, have gotten worn-looking. Need better attention to detail. Need to work with law enforcement to manage the noise outside.
I've visited this hotel 4-5 times in the last 7 years, but it's been a couple since the last time. Unfortunately, it's no longer the place it used to be. It's still pretty good, but not for the price they charge nowadays. The rooms are starting to show wear and tear, the beds no longer a cloud upon which you float. Little things missing like shower caps and soap for the shower. No complimentary bottled waters. No New Age music playing when you arrive in the room. If you miss the early morning cleaning, your room doesn't get made up without having to call, even if you're gone from 11-3pm. The partial ocean view room that faced the sun deck that I booked wasn't available, so I ended up in one, still with partial ocean view, facing the street. Unfortunately, that street was often so noisy I couldn't hear the ocean, with MANY MANY barely muffled motorcycles that use Feldspar as their private showroom for how much noise they can generate by revving their engines. Over the top was the motorcyclist who used his excursion as an opportunity to show how loud his sound system was, playing a medley of his favorite tunes for everyone including beachgoers to share. Even with the door closed, I could hear every note. Not a 5-star experience, and WAY expensive. Much better values can be found in San Diego on the beach. We ate one night at the Jardin restaurant, and the food was good, service ok, but it took them a half hour to seat us even with a reservation. Again, the price not worth it.

Great location, large airy room, quality fittings

The location is great, right on the boardwalk. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Room was very large and fitted the four of us easily. Walking distance to some quirky eating spots. Great people watching from the balcony. A little noisy at night from the restaurant/ bar. Valet service efficient

Wonderful hotel. We loved the modern design, 2nd floor deck, great restaurant, happy hour and location. Our only disappointments were poor air conditioner in our room and we were not able to check in early.
