“don't even have tissue paper”
the garden is beautiful but the room is mediocre.
“Great Service”
The staff was wonderful and very friendly. The compound is huge and very well done with all the trees and flowers. Although the hotel could use some updating and the room was on the small side we all had a great time. Would recommend!
“This place is only "So-So"”
This place needs face-lift. My guess is that it was built in the 1960's. The elevators are very slow. My room was drafty as the sliding door did not shut properly. There are no refrigerators in the room and the TV's are very small. As I was leaving the room to go out, a maid was in front of the room with her cart. She asked me if I wanted house keeping done. I told her that I did. I returned about 10 hours later only to find that the room had not been made up. It was late at night and all I wanted to do was go to bed, so I did not call the front desk. I was checking out the next day and could not be bothered. I had booked 2 rooms on my credit card. One for me and one for a fellow traveler. They put us on different floors. I figured that the place must be full as the Chargers were playing the Packers and there were many Packers fans to be seen in the surrounding area of the hotel. It soon became obvious that the place was not heavily booked by these Packer Fans. I understand that you can not always get connecting rooms, but the place did not have many people in it. Why we ended up on two floors is beyond me. When we checked in, we were assured that we would be able to check out using separate credit cards to pay. Upon check-out were were told that this could not be done as the rooms had been booked on Expedia. The trip was a "guys trip" to see the football game, so I was only annoyed about this place. There is no way I would take my wife & kids here.
“A poor choice even at discount prices”
I stayed at this hotel for a conference in October 2011. The Town & Country has grown by absorbing other nearby hotels and it shows. The layout is spread out, haphazard and difficult to navigate. The hotel restaurants, cafes and bars were undermanned and the staff were out of their depth; food and drinks were mediocre at best and significantly overpriced. The room itself was clean but the bedding, fixtures and so on were more what I would expect from a rural chain motel than from a city hotel in this price range. As for location, it's reasonably central but there's very little in walking distance and even that is difficult to get to. San Diego has plenty of good, fairly priced hotels; this isn't one of them.
“Beautiful setting, great pools and FABULOUS reatraunts!”
From the outside the hotel does not look like much but boy, when you get inside and around the grounds, it is absolutely beautiful. I was there for 5 nights and enjoyed all of my time. The room was lovely, clean...and I AM a neat freak!!! The restrauants were fabulous. The staff were helpfu, charming and very freindly!!!! Great job to all...I will return again!! EG. PA
“Floral Delight & Excellent Service”
The grounds are fantastic! Beautiful flowers are everywhere and each path leads you to another nook of quiet & charm. The rooms could stand some updating, but they are large and clean. From the front desk to the bell desk to the restaurant staff, all were friendly and helpful. A very pleasant stay overall. Final thoughts...Quaint & Charming with the smell of Roses everywhere!
“Would *NEVER* stay here again....”
Where do I start..... 1. Parking: They charge their guest $14 a DAY for parking....Ridiculous!! Then you have to take a ticket and check out with a gate attendant each time you leave (parking garage style gate). One time it was back up & we ended up waiting 15 minutes just to leave our hotel! 2. Room: "Old" overwhelming smell when you enter, no dark curtains to block out sunlight on side windows, Spider in bath tub, No comforter on bed ( had a sheet & thin blanket). Didn't get comforter until our last night!, old school small tv with a remote would not turn TV on & off...so that meant getting out of bed to turn it off...asked for another remote....got another with the same problem! Towels in bathroom were brand new and had NOT been washed before put in our room..still had factory sticker on them. Pillows were hard, bed was not comfortable either. 3. Customer Service: Not so good! called the front desk for new remote & extra blanket since we didn't have a comforter....She was rude & put me hold for 10 mins first because she was helping OTHER customers. So I hang up to call again & same thing puts me on hold in mid sentence because she was helping other customers...another 5 minutes!! 15 minutes total for a PAID customer to speak to front desk...NOT my ideal of good service! 4. The whole place is just a glorified MOTEL with a resort status. The Gardening is Beautiful & That is the only thing Resort'ish about the place. Use your MONEY ELSEWHERE!
“Disappointed”
I was very disappointed. I had never stayed there in San Diego and was excited to stay only to be very disappointed. We arrived and where placed in a dirty old room at the back of the property facing the parking lot. I called to complain and waited 20min with no return call. I then proceeded to the Lobby to wait 10 more minutes. We were then moved to another building on the property which was better but still a little dirty. We were provided breakfast for one day which was nice. We missed a dinner reservation and it was too late to take the children swimming because of the hassle with room. I hate to complain because I have travelled and stayed in all kinds of accommodations around the world. However I had an expectation and it was not met.
“very nice”
we all enjoyed the hotel, swimming pool heated and salted
“Good Value”
Good Value for the money and location is great
