Would Expect More

I would have expected more from a resort and conference center. The hotel is old and really needs some updates. My room smelled funny when I got there. Eventually, I didn't notice anymore, but when a friend came by a few days later he said "You weren't kidding, your room does smell funny." My room also just looked dated. It had wallpaper on the lower half of the walls and was painted on the upper half. There was a floral pattern bed spread that was a different floral color than the bed skirt. The bed skirt was the exact same patter and shape as the curtains. It was modern and nice looking for 1991. There was also, what looked like a booger, in my coffee pot. Needless to say, I never made coffee in my room. Some other minor things; a light bulb was out in the bathroom and was never replaced, my smoke detector battery died (which they did replace the next day), and there was no iron in the room, but a place for it. I called and they did bring me one.

Beware the hidden fees!

The hotel room was listed as $85, which seemed like a great deal, so we booked it. After a 30 minute wait to check in, we were informed that the original room pricing did not include a mandatory "resort fee" (for use of the exercise room and the internet). It also did not include parking, which was a significant additional cost. We also were told that although we booked a king bed, they were out of this style of room and that the only available rooms were 2 double beds. So we traveled 3000 miles to visit San Diego so my wife and I could have separate beds on Valentine's Day. After we made a bit of a scene the manager did apologize and upgrade our room and waive the parking fee. I would never stay at this hotel again.

last year we stayed at this hotel and had an amazing experience so when we booked our vacation I made sure to book this hotel . We stayed for 12 days the first day we arrived we were hit with and 18 dollar a night parking fee ( last year they waved the fee because of our long stay) then when we got our room we were shocked to see water stained walls and fifthy table and super out dated bathroom. I called the front desk and asked for a new room and was told that was were the EXPEDIA customers were put but that if we wanted to up grade we would have to pay an additional $60 a night ...The woman at the front desk informed us she worked there fifteen years and this was our problem for using Expedia and not booking directly with them we were exhausted and angry . I even call expedia and explained what was happening they called hotel for us and we had an appointment to meet with superviser in the morning. This was a completedly different experience then we had the first time we used this hotel. In the am we spoke with superviser who gave us $8 dollars a day parking and $30 dollar upgrade charge as well as 6 breakfast passes. He was extremely polite and tried his best to resolve our problems. updating rooms would be helpful siding door to bathroom came of track and I was stuck in bathroom until staff came to fix it ... could have been worse if I was alone in room thankfully , I wasn't ... we had to move all of our stuff a second time to yet another room because of door.

Do not stay here

You can hear everything. The walls are super thin... Sounds like all the windows are open. Room was dirty. They charge you an additional 18 for parking and resort fee plus tax... Which is not included with your booking with Expedia. Looks like a run down hotel from the 60s.

Old windows and new ice machine don't mix

Location: The mall was down the street
The ice machine was located too close to the windows. The ice machine generated a loud humming sound all night. When it turned off, it was only a matter of time when the ice trays leased its big bang of ice into the freezer. The windows at room 3410 had the very old slatted windows and the lever to open and close the windows were useless, old, rusted and extremely difficult to close. If you plan on staying at the hotel, you're better off sleeping in your own car, parked away from the ice machine. Unfortunately, I will NEVER stay at this hotel again and will be recommending that all my coworkers, family and friends search for another hotel that is more considerate about its clientele. The parking was not sufficient for all the cars who parked overnight but at the very least, required a parking permit. The front desk personnel were not friendly and took more than 1/2 an hour to check in. All in all, the hotel administration was poorly managed, the cleaning crew was very thorough but useless if the rooms are structurally unsound.

Great for Families

Pros: See above. The staff were very friendly and approachable as well.
Cons: Not the newest or most modern facilites but clean and had plenty of character.
Location: Short foot bridge to the Fashion Valley Mall with a well-appointed food court.Close to the junction of highways 8 and 5 giving access to all areas.
Once you get used to the sprawling lay-out of the facilities, it is pretty easy to navigate your way around. It isn't like a traditional property where everything is in one building, in fact almost everything is in 'another building'. But with 2 pools to choose from, large outdoor hot tub, well equipped gym / spa, and a variety of room formats to choose from, it makes from an entertaining stay. It was also half the rate of the other properties available at the time of our travel which was over a long weekend.

- A/C Broken: Staff seamed to take no concern next day. - Window facing pool, fortunately pool is not heated so there weren't many people walking by window - kept sliding off mattress to one side. As if old boxspring. - Carpet left some room for cleaning. - Site states 3 pm check in. Room was ready after 4:30.

Charming, centrally located scenic hotel/resort

This hotel is though fairly older, quite beautiful and very charming with a wonderful back of house and higher level management staff. Middle management leaves something to be desired and fees can range into the highs so ensure you verify everything before booking. Resort fees, parking pet fees incidentals. Overall though it's amazing and offers some great amenities. They are also renovating so I imagine it's only getting better!

Beautiful grounds not as fantastic on the inside

Pros: The grounds of the hotel were beautiful with quick easy access to a great mall and down town.
Cons: The TV was rather old and the channels were limited, there was no fridge in the rooms, and the beds were rather stiff and uncomfortable.
The grounds are lovely, there are several pools which are great in the hot seasons though very cold in the off seasons. The rooms are very aged sadly, but very clean with a coffee maker and over all nice looking room. The amenities are very aged sadly as well for the extra 14 dollar resort fee on top of the 18 dollars for parking I'm not feeling the resort considering you have to pay for access to the spa and all the restaurants that sadly are all rather steeply priced compared to other restaurants and spas in the area. It is a beautiful hotel I wish the rooms would be updated a little with some extra comforts and the prices would be a bit less fashionable and more feasible.

Affordable resort hotel

the room we stayed in seemed more like a bedroom in a bed and breakfast. The furniture was a little dated but it fit the decor nicely. the only thing we didn't care for was the small TV and the fact that there is no cable.
