Nice, safe, secluded hotelPosted May 19, 2015
I have never stayed at a Welk resort. I am not at all familiar with Escondido and wanted a safe environment for my daughter (who is young) and I to stay at for her dance competition. There were some things that I liked and some that I didn't. I enjoyed the rooms, they were large and the separate master bedroom was nice, and the kitchen a plus! What I didn't like was how hard it was to find the rooms, the stairs - I did mention (and dance mom's will understand) that I was traveling by myself as I mentioned to the manager when we checked in (which got me out of the "sales presentation") and her dance bag weighs a ton - needless to say - we had to change rooms - we were put far from parking - and down two flights of stairs - the staff was great about relocation us. I would never stay here again with just my one child - but I may consider it with the family - as they have several great pools and activities (none of which we were able to check out or try). Also, there is no cleaning service - which is nice to know - since we are staying at the Cabo Welk resort in a few weeks - at least now I know what to expect.

Very impressedPosted May 19, 2015
Well, we had a big group of family staying at this resort for a graduation from Cal State San Marcos and this was the perfect venue to stay and continue with the celebration. We hosted a luncheon at the restaurant and the friendly staff was very accommodating. The villa we stayed in was a two bedroom that had just been remodeled and it was beautiful. We were on the ground floor with a amazing patio looking out to the mountain range. Perfect for the back drop of pictures. The pool facility is just awesome, with cabanas and a waterslide. Of course there is more than just one pool area too. The grounds are very well kept and there is security to keep only hotel guests in the vicinity. It is removed from town, so bring all you need, but, that is what makes it so nice, remote and relaxing. Will go back should the opportunity arise.

Beautiful 1 bedroom suite in lovely resortPosted May 17, 2015
Pros: Our room, amenities, excellent live show on the premises.
Location: The downside is that the location is a 45-60 min drive to San Diego, so if you're sightseeing every day you are driving on a busy freeway.
We had a small 1 bedroom on Mountainside and it was beautiful, overlooking golf course. It appeared to be newer. Pool was great and we golfed the Oak par 3 for a great price. The dinner and show was also excellent.

No stroller access! Not family friendly.Posted May 12, 2015
Pros: A friend who owns a timeshare here told us of this place. Would never return.
Cons: Staff needs to be trained on amenities. Put families with strollers in downstairs rooms.
Location: Wild Animal park is about 15 minutes away and pretty amazing!
We finally got away on a one night vacation with our twin 18 months old toddlers. We were terribly disappointed to have wasted our one night on this place. Pros: Beautiful landscaping Cons: - No elevators. Had to carry our twins in their double strollers up and down two flights of stairs every time we left the unit. Very few ramps on the properly. Again, had to carry the stroller up and down stairs across the property. A nightmare! - Clueless staff. We asked what our dining options were and were never told about the ToGo grill. That would have been really nice. Instead, we ate terrible pre packaged sandwiches from the on site market. They were 90% dry bread. - More clueless staff. We asked which pool was best for babies and were directed to the family pool. Apparently there is a toddler wading pool. That would have been nice! - Thin walls. The walls are so thin that you can hear everything on every side of you. We listened to the neighbor's party, yell, and run all over their room until 10:30 pm. At this point, we called security and the party was shut down. - Poor parking situation. Be prepared to walk a long distance to and from your car. Not good with babies. -Poor layout. Only one entrance to each pool. If you have a room on the opposite side of the entrance, be prepared for a long walk. Not good if you have babies to carry. You won't want to take the stroller because you will have to carry it up and down stairs. - Fan rattled all night.

Great Hotel to RelaxPosted May 8, 2015
Pros: Pools, Room, Kitchen
Cons: Less time share selling please
Location: Nothing, that's the best part, just enjoy the sun and pool people!
Overall the hotel was great, we stayed in one of their newest suits from what the girl who checked us in said. It was clean, nice view, and had a great little kitchen that we cooked our meals in every night. 2 of the pools were under construction but the other two pools where great but did get busy on the weekends with all the time share tours going on, AVOID THE TIME SHARE TOURS at all costs..... After we checked in we drove over to Escondido to pick up groceries for the week which was nice to avoid the on-site restaurant which just looked "okay". The store on-site had a limited supply of groceries which were very over priced, avoid if you can.

Dated resort - disappointing.Posted May 4, 2015
My family arrived and had to wait fifteen minutes to check in. When we did, we were given some free dining credits for kids which were no good to us as they only applied to kids 10 and under. We went to our room only to find that there was no parking anywhere near as half the parking was under construction. When we did eventually get to our room it was OK, but very 80's style and a lot more dated than we were expecting for something in that price range. We were really tired so walked to the on site store to get something to eat. Unfortunately the store only had really basic stuff - Hungryman frozen dinners, chips and ice cream. They had a decent wine selection, but the only cheese to go with it was sliced processed packaged cheese. There was a deli counter but that was shut down. I had hoped for a nice cheese and olive selection and perhaps some ready cooked chicken and fresh bread. We went next door to look at the restaurant but it was packed and looked like a bad version of Chillis so we gave it a miss. We eventually got pizza and called it a night. Our kids liked the pool but one of the main reasons for coming was the water slide. We were told it didn't open until 11am and as the hotel insists on a 10am check out they were unable to use it. Beware - they charge $50 per hour if you miss the check out. All in all a pretty grotty experience. As we were leaving, someone tried to hit us up to take a time share tour of the place - I think you can probably guess our answer!!!
