The sofa bed was terrible.

Posted Apr 16, 2015
We are a family with two young kids, so two beds rooms always are our first requirement when we book a room. But since the resort doesn't offer two beds villa, but a sofa bed instead. The sofa bed was thin, my husband could feel the springs of the metress. It would be nice if there is a mattress form top to add the thickness. Despite this, our stay of 3 nights were great!! The resort provided many activities for kids. They had a fun time playing foot golf and making crafts.

Great setting/rooms. Poor Cleanliness/Service

Posted Apr 16, 2015
Pros: Setting and room layout
Cons: 1) Cleanliness 2) One person/entity needs to take ownership of customer experience across the entire resort. It's too disjointed.
Location: Safari Park. Very little else though, unless you drive 30 minutes to the coast or 1 hours into San Diego. Only 90 minutes from Disneyland.
Setting - Fabulous, in the hills behind San Diego. Beware though, almost 1 hour from the city with no beaches nearby. Rooms - Great setup for families with plenty of space in the 2-bed villas, but no travel-cots for babies. You have to bring your own or organize it yourself. Cleanliness - not good. No cleaning provided (to speak of) during the stay. Restaurant was appallingly dirty. Service - Appalling. The restaurant is extremely slow with stressed staff and neither the restaurant management nor the hotel management care. This may be just my perception, but to a customer, perception is reality. In short the main issue is that the resort is disjointed. The accommodation appears to be owned by private individuals and the Welk Resort management simply provide a service that allows the owners to rent out their apartments. They continually push to sell time share ownership on you (if offered express check-in and/or a tour of the resort, this is what they're actually doing). Minimal cleaning is provided and you have to take out your own trash and change your own sheets. The restaurant also appears to be separately owned and run. There is no one person who treats you like a customer and looks after you. Welk Resort operates as Vacation Rental by Owner, and you're pretty much on your own after that. Disappointing.

Good for families.

Pros: Pools - bbq's, great scenery and the beds were very comfortable.
Cons: Trash outside the units every day....what's the point of great scenery if you see all the dirty laundry and trash outside.
Location: 10 to 15 minutes to off site shopping and dining.
It's a nice location and has a ton of activities for guests. There were a lot of renovations going on during our stay....so some things were not as accessible. I didn't go on the 'sales' tour--heard horror stories about the closer and am glad we just used the resort as a 'hotel' since I have no interest in a timeshare. It's about an hour from San Diego with traffic, but overall it was easy to get to the areas of interest for us. Our unit seemed a little 'worn' and old--but comfy.

Average at best

Posted Apr 15, 2015
Pros: proximity to where we were going.
Cons: check in/out process...and overall accommodation. The Oak golf course layout was confusing for foot golf.
Front desk staff was friendly but not very helpful. When we tried to extend our stay to a couple of extra days and were told that we couldn't stay in the same room because someone else had already reserved that room. We packed our stuff, checked out and tried to check back in another room only to be told that the only room available was the room that i just checked out. Check in/out process was SLOW even for the pre-check in. I spent about 1/2 hr standing in line.

Relaxing and fun

Location: Zoo, SeaWorld, and Aquarium were very nice and not too far to drive.
A nice spot, tucked away from San Diego. Very little pressure on the time share opportunities. Staff were helpful.

Pros: Rennovated rooms were fantastic. Loved the access to grills.
Cons: Finish the pools so that there is room for all the guests. (I know this is underway)
Location: It was about a 30 to 40 minute drive to almost everything we did (Safari Park, Beaches, etc....). But they were all unique and were worth the drive.
Had a great experience. I didn't feel like the information we were giving by the hotel was entirely accurate. 2 of the pools were closed for renovation, including the one right across from our room, but that really ended up being not too important. The rooms were immaculate! Maybe the nicest room I have ever stayed in.

Animal park visit

Cons: How do I get a three bedroom?
This resort is really almost half an hour to the park. But it is the only place near it that can really accommodate a family. My advice is book early so you don't have to stay on the Green. It is outdated. Avoid the timeshare sharks. They can ruin the trip. Great fun for kids

Nice restart...but a little far out from the city

Posted Apr 4, 2015
Pros: Liked the room which had living space, kitchen and separate bedroom. Loved the little deck (but didn't love sharing it with the room next door)
Cons: Allow guests to use amenitites in the evening hours (game rooms, ping pong tables, etc)
Location: Sight seeing was a 30+ minute drive... lots to do in San Diego
Since "San Diego" is in the resort name, we thought it was a little closer to the city than it actually is. The resort was nice if you were around in the day time. We picked the resort so we would have things to do in the evening after sight-seeing in the day, and found that there really wasn't much to do in the evening. Game rooms were locked up, no paddles for the ping pong tables, etc. Food at the market place was marked up a lot.

Great place for a family vacation! Several pools to utilize and very well located to popular attractions like Disneyland, Legoland, wine country and of course the beach.
