“A true find in the heart of the city!”

This hotel is a great find in the heart of San Francisco. It has an excellent location; friendly, helpful staff; and clean rooms. The parking garage staff were professional and efficient both checking in and checking out, too. My only concerns with the Baldwin have to do with my own rating--i.e., by giving them "superb" on each category, they'll (a) become way too popular (making it difficult for us to again book a room) and (b) become pricey.

“Nancy from SoCal”

This is a good value hotel. It does not have a lot of frills and air conditioning is apparently a frill, but during my stay it wasn't too hot so it was okay. The rooms are small but adequate. This is literally 100 feet from the entry to China Town. There is great shopping within a couple of blocks. The sushi place next door gives a 10% discount for hotel guests and was good and not over priced. While I normally look for 3 - 4 star hotels sometimes they're just too expensive and when traveling on business I have a max amount to spend on a hotel. I will stay here again.

“The right place”

This Hotel was easy to find, right near Bart and walkable to art galleries, and Chinatown, helpful staff, clean and comfortable room with openable windows to let in the fresh San Francisco air, good bathroom with tub- in short it was the right place for me as a single traveller, fine for a couple too. Good price too.

“Very comfortable”

I've never stayed at a 2 star hotel, but if they are all as great as the Baldwin why should I spend the money for a 4 star?! the rooms were decent for a hotel, looked like every other hotel room. No heat or air, but the fan was enough during October to keep us cool. Loved the location, seemed like it was easy to get anywhere we wanted to go.

“Would definitely go back”

Location is great. Price very reasonable. Everything within easy walking distance, including all public transportation. Room was very comfortable and clean, staff was friendly and accomodating. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room, having too much fun in SF, but it was easily returned to from wherever we ended up and always clean when we got back. Will definitely try to book this hotel again when I return to SF. Only a few blocks walk from BART (took this to and from SF Airport to the hotel), streetcars, buses and trolleys. Perfect for someone from out of town and there to see and do everything possible within a few days. Chinatown Gate and Irish Bank bar & grille across the street, tons of shopping and restaurants close by, including Bistro 69 for breakfast and lunch. Went to The Warfield one night for a concert (bus over, walked back). Made it to Fisherman's Wharf and Palace of Fine Arts / Exploratorium too, no problem.

“Great Location!”

This hotel is a great location to the trolleys, streetcars, Chinatown, etc. It is a neat hotel, smaller than the big chains, nothing too frilly, but completely ample in my opinion. I would stay there again.

“Excellent Experience”

Having stayed all over San Francisco in a variety of hotels, cheap to expensive, I can honestly say that the Baldwin was the best experience we have had. Check-in was a breeze, when we needed additional pillows and and ironing board/iron and they were delivered in less than 15 minutes. It is the largest room I have had in the city. Located close to everything. It isn't air conditioned but ceiling fans were adequate. Great Claw foot bathtub. The down sides were only one slow elevator and is in front of a huge parking garage and at times car alarms go off, but the windows if closed deaden most of the sound.

“Good location”

Good hotel. Clean. In a fantastic location! Pretty safe, as far as SF goes. Good shopping nearby. Coffee shops everywhere. Staff was quite helpful and courteous.

“Great Location”

We enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Baldwin. Being a first time visitor to San Francisco, this hotel was in a prime location to get to some of the first time sights San Fran has to offer! It is an older hotel but offered the charm that comes with the beauty of the city. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but restaurants and coffee shops are plentiful in this area along with a variety of shopping from high end stores to the bargains China Town (1/2 block) has to offer. Maybe a small downside was the outdoor noise you could hear in your room at night (traffic, trash trucks, etc.) Although I was never bothered by the noise, we did vaca with 2 other couples, and they mentioned the outdoor noise at times that they could hear from their room. I would definately stay there again...great place for couples!
