“No Frills, but clean and great location”
We were in SF for 1 nite for a concert and chose this hotel due to location and price. It was a great choice. The staff was helpful and friendly, it was clean and was perfect for our short stay. It was close to restaurants, bars and atms.
“reasonable”
good location and satisfactory considering the price
“Great hotel!”
This hotel was probably one of the best that I've ever stayed at. It was in a convenient location and we could walk everywhere we had to go since if was so close. The staff there were also very nice and very helpful. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who travels to San Francisco.
“If it wasn't for the location...”
The hotel is in a nice area, a quick and easy walk to Union Square and the other sights in the area. The room was clean but the pillows were uncomfortable. The bathroom tap kept dripping. The room overall looked like it needed to have some work so that it didn't look so tired and worn. We found the hotel staff to be mixed. The maids were cheerful and did a great job. However, when we asked the front desk staff if we were able to catch the BART around 3am or so to SFO for our 6am flight, we were told 'yes'. We made our way at insane o'clock to the BART at Powell, only to see it shuttered and closed. Our question was asked simply and clearly and repeated, so in future, please make sure guests are given the correct information. Last time I was in SF (2004), the BART was not running 24 hours but my partner thought it now did. We asked the front desk staff so we could make arrangements for our travel to the airport. It would have been easier for them to tell us to catch the airport shuttle or a taxi than to say "yes" when uncertain. The continental breakfast was ok; danishes and croissants, cereal, regular milk, coffee, tea, grapes and apples. It would be better if they had wifi for the rooms so that we could have checked our own travel arrangements and organised our itinerary. Value for money wise, it was like staying in a private room in a hostel, which we could have done if we had wanted that instead of a hotel.
“Frequent traveler”
Hotel was clean and location good but some staff members are not friendly, giving poor impression. The hotel is very old withno wifi in romms and very poor in the common area. Breakfast lacking of choice.
“What's the problem?”
Perhaps too many Westerners have expectations that their hotels ought to be the Hilton in every circumstance, but in short, it's not clear to me why this hotel has such a low rating. True, it does not have room service or a pool or AC or a workout room. However, it's not clear to me why a hotel in downtown San Francisco needs AC (it's always rather temperate, from whatever I understand) or a workout room (the whole city is a workout room with its incredibly steep hills at times). If you are accustomed to room service and 'must have it,' then this is not the hotel for you. If you want a hotel with rooms that feel like a home, a pub on the main floor that feels like the corner tap, a staff that is competent and courteous, and clean and workable environment, this is definitely the place. It is a cute boutique hotel in Union Square within walking distance of most downtown attractions. My wife and I were in town for a conference that was held at an expensive resort hotel, and we much preferred this hotel, with its European feel and short distance from everything (i.e., the conference, food, shopping, attractions). Additionally, we felt quite safe. We both highly recommend the Beresford.
“Great price and location”
Look, for the good location and the lower price of course you're not going to get the Taj mahal but you will get a very clean hotel and friendly staff so I recommend this hotel. The walls are a little thin so I recommend earplugs if that kind of thing bothers you. I would stay there again.
“Our Beresford Experience”
The Beresford Hotel is an older hotel but it is maintained well. Our room was comfortable, private and safe. The surrounding neighborhood is typical of downtown San Francisco and the hotel is close to several restaurants, shops and "Starbucks". If you are looking for a nice, San Francisco hotel in the heart of the city, I recommend the Beresford Hotel
“extreme clean!”
exelent service, this place is pretty cute, Old british style this is the cleanest hotel i been in san fran.smells great. will recomend it. will stay here again.
“good value, clean, and convenient”
The Beresford Hotel was a good value. We arrived several hours before the posted check-in, and were grateful for getting an early check-in after a long previous night and an early morning cross-country fight. The staff was courteous, the room was clean and quiet, the breakfast was not extravagant but it was certainly adequate. We were convenient to a Walgreen's, some restaurants, Union Station was several blocks, the trolley stop was about 2 blocks, and several rental car offices, including Dollar, were about 5 blocks away. No heating or air controls in the room, but there was a box fan in the room and that's all we needed.
