Go for this hotel without hesitation!

Pros: The charm of the building and the interior. The beds!
Cons: The hotel has the default of its charm. Since it is an old charm hotel, it is a bit noisy. Also breackfast is a bit basic.
Location: Great location to visit the city. You're not going to stay in the hotel nor in the neighborhood, right?
I don't agree with a lot of negative comments here. I think that it is a very good deal. Just ask for a quiet room and you will get one! It is very well located, in the center really. The hotel itself has charm, beds are very confy and the crew is very friendly. Unless you are willing to pay the price of a 5 or 4 stars hotel, in its category this hotel is quiet a deal!

Parking situation is pretty weird.

Pros: breakfast, wine and cheese reception.
Cons: elevator problem
Location: location was close to union square, but not that great all the way.lots of suspicious people around. We could not find anything interesting to do...
Non of the employes told us true about parking. The guests staying at the hotel can park theirs cars for about 20-25 $ a night right next to the hotel, but non of the personal who works at the hotel mentioned that, instead they would send us to all kinds of places with prices $40-45 . Also another thing... the building is tall and living at the 6th floor had to use stair case going down in almost 96% of the time. For some reason it just does not want to show up when you want to go down.No problem to go up. Liked free wine and cheese every evening, complementary breakfast was not bad at all. We had problem with connecting to free wifi using ipad.Gave up...

I arrived early morning but the room was there. The hotel staff was very friendly. The room is pretty good. The only caveat is it was noisy at night outside. that is SF street life.

Pros: Friendly staff.
Cons: Noise from the club but not hotels fault.
Location: Not bad but a lot of homeless but that is in a lot of areas. Close to shopping, Union Square, transportation.
The hotel was clean and well kept. The staff were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. For any little problem they were right there to fix it and if they couldn't it was fixed the next day. TV wasn't working so next day the provider had it fixed; one electric heater not working, fixed the next morning. The weekends are very noisy due to the club next door but the hotel staff will give you ear plugs if you don't have your own. Good buffet breakfast included; wine and cheese every day was nice even if we didn't have it every day. Area the hotel was in was fine and easy walk to Union Square and the Bart. Hotel is old but has character and well looked after.

Average Hotel...

Overall the experience was OK, rooms seems to be a bit small and crowded. The mattress was too soft or old and was not comfortable for two people to sleep on the king bed. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Complained about the mattress but the so called 'fix' did not help.

Comfy hotel for the easy going
Posted Jan 8, 2013
Pros: felt comfortable at all times -- great staff and very clean room
Cons: old elevator, neighbourhood a bit seedy a few streets over at night - stick to main streets and there are no problems
Location: central location right downtown - few blocks from Union Square and Trolleys. Bus right outside the door.
I chose the hotel based on prior reviews. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is easy going and looking for a place that feels confortable. Old hotel with a bit of a musty smell from the carpet the first time you exit the elevator but don't notice thereafter. Definitely counterbalanced by location, all of the interesting architectural features and poster-theme throughout. Great old deep bath tub and good water pressure for a shower. Room small but cozy and immaculate, bed very comfortable and hardwood floors were a definite asset. A bit of noise but that is to be expected when you are right downtown. I faced the front of the building on the 10th floor and didn't have any trouble sleeping. Staff all very friendly and helpful, great breakfast buffet and excellent internet access. (Didn't participate in the tequila welcome or daily wine and cheese but people seemed to enjoy themselves.) I spent a week here as a single female traveller for a conference and vacation and it will be high on my list for a return visit.

It's the little things...
Posted Jan 7, 2013
The location of the hotel is great, and the room was spacious and clean. The lower rating is due to the fact that there were a collection of small things that added up. For instance, there was no television available in the hotel due to a new cable system being installed. The ice machine is in the basement. There was no information in the room about the hotel, the area, amenities, etc. The combination shampoo/conditioner felt a bit low rent. And I didn't find out that I should have been offered a free tequila shot at check in until I went down to find out why my TV wouldn't work. Nothing major to complain about, but small considerations would be nice. I would give it another try...
